Montel off the air after 17 years

We're only noting this because he was on our front page three days ago, for his gentlemanly scolding of FOX and Friends' hosts for asking about Heath Ledger. He excoriated the profit-driven infotainment business as a whole for their obsessive focus on celebrities and persoanl tragedies while ignoring the deaths of American troops in Iraq (all in the name of respecting privacy, HA!)

Variety reports that

"Fate of "The Montel Williams Show" was sealed when key Fox-owned stations opted not to renew it for the 2008-09 season. "

Whether this happened before his appearance or after is not clear,; whether there is a connection or not is unknown.

Is is possible that his MS has something to do with this? He was diagnosed in 1999, but his first symptoms appeared in 1980. My best friend has MS and had to retire from teaching last year -- she's just too tired to put in a full day with a room full of kindergarten kids, even with a teacher's aide. I expect that a daily talk show is just as stressful, if not as full of poopy jokes and afternoon naps.
