At least three different wars being waged in Iraq
1) Shia v Sunni
2) Iraqis v occupiers
3) al qaida v assorted

Bush plan offers no strategy against the first two which are the major in terms of numbers of dead and wounded. People who have been fighting and dying for 1000 years for religious conflict aren't going to stop because the twit sent 20K more troops.

3. sorry about forgetting Kurd conflicts
I'm thinking there are also economic conflicts about sharing of wealth between the various constituencies. There is probably also a fundamentalist v non-fundie.

4. I remember Robert Fisk saying that there wouldn't be a civil war
in Iraq because of the cross marriages between TRIBES. The differences are between tribes - I'm not sure if he meant by religion.

Would we even be putting all this focus on religion if we (and the UK) had not played one side against the other - by religion? Or is Iran the prize and we are playing to the dominant religion there.

(By religion - I don't mean different religions, just their division with their religion.)

What exactly is the definition of civil war?

Perhaps there is more tribe fighting (internal) with foreigners entering to fight - 'brought on' by us and the UK.

One thing for sure - few have democracy on their mind.

Words about Democracy are only for those in suits who are before a camera - public relations for this administration.

I think highly of Fisk - does anyone have an update on what he is saying?
