US anti-missile ship to dock in Haifa/Internet disruptions
Odd timing or coincidence?

An American missile ship set to dock at Haifa Port on Monday is equipped with an anti-missile defense system that could be deployed in the region in the event of an Iranian missile attack against Israel.
The USS San Jacinto is an AEGIS cruiser in the Ticonderoga Class and was commissioned in 1988. It carries the most advanced underwater surveillance system available today and is equipped with the AEGIS missile defense system, which was developed by Lockheed Martin to protect against aircraft and missiles. The ship will remain in Haifa for three days.

1. US Navy port calls are fairly common in Israel.
without more details it is hard to know whether it is out of the ordinary or not.

2. What? You think Israel is hiding behind the Aegis system?
I thought those systems only had enough range to protect the ship itself or, perhaps the carrier group it's deployed with.

I'm gone to Global Security website to check this out

4. From the JPost article
"anti-missile defense system that could be deployed in the region in the event of an Iranian missile attack against Israel."

3. I've been in Haifa when the Navy
has visited. The bars get crowded and the exchange rate goes all to hell, but the sailors spend tons of money, get to blow off some steam, and most everybody is happy.

5. Me, too.
I was in the Navy. :)

I must have been at sea for too long before we pulled in, because I remember sitting in a bar looking at the rows of wine glasses hanging upside down in the racks above the bar, and thinking, "Those things are going to slide right out of there the first time we take heavy rolls."

Sometimes it takes a while to get used to being back on shore.

As far as the conspiracy theory, I'd look a lot harder at an ASW or a cable-laying ship than I would at an Aegis cruiser. It shoots in the wrong direction to damage those cables. :)
