It's profit. Not belief that keeps a population in slavery today.
You could believe in a divine worm and things would still be the same for you.

"slavery" down to a science. Now they don't even have to worry about slave quarters, health, food or transportation. They include enough into the slave wages so that the slaves themselves manage their personal items as best they can.

The irony is that the "slaves" don't think they are slaves. In fact, they generally mistake their slave masters as being their benefactors.

If a person values possessions above all else, and only wants more and more of them, they are slaves to those possessions. Often, people like this feel that there is no value in honor, in honesty, in helping others, or even in being content with what they have. They are, indeed, poverty stricken as well as being slaves, for they never find contentment.
