McCain: "We need a unified Western approach to a revanchist Russia ... "
...
U.S. Sen. John McCain, a critic of the Kremlin and a regular at the conference, sent word that he would not attend as he focused on locking up the Republican nomination for the presidency.
But he wrote an editorial in Munich's Sueddeutsche Zeitung on Friday, saying that «genuine partnership remains open to Moscow, but only if it chooses to uphold its responsibilities to the international community and its own citizens.

«We need a unified Western approach to a revanchist Russia whose leaders seem more determined to chart an old course of conflict rather than join the democratic peace of the West,» McCain wrote. «We should start by ensuring that the G-8 becomes again a club of leading market democracies: it should include India and Brazil but exclude Russia.

He also stressed the need for an increased NATO presence in Afghanistan, and for countries to suspend «the debilitating restrictions on when and how those forces can fight.

5. Russia feels threatened (from the same article)

Last year's conference produced fireworks between Russia and the U.S., when Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the United States of starting another Cold War by planning to base parts of a missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic.
Russia has not softened its tone since then. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday that the plans were an example of «imperial thinking,» and suggested Washington was trying to encircle Russia.

3. Revanchist: There's a word you don't run into every day...
Revanchism (from French revanche, "revenge") is a term used since the 1870s to describe a political manifestation of the will to reverse territorial losses incurred by a country, often following a war. Revanchism draws its strength from patriotic and retributionist thought and is often motivated by economic or geo-political factors. Extreme revanchist ideologues often represent a hawkish stance, suggesting that desired objectives can be reclaimed in the positive outcome of another war.

Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 12:08 PM by The Traveler
American belligerence and strategic idiocy have encouraged military build ups in China and Russia, while at the same time weakening America to create a window of opportunity for strategic advances. It is all about achieving favorable access to resources ... a morally dubious policy all three of the aforementioned nations are certain to pursue.

McCain and the rethugs are aware of these developments, and are really hoping the people don't catch on to the fact that it is largely a product of their policy. So it is time to start catapaulting the propaganada ...

They remain blood and guts ass clowns ... our blood, mostly.

11. McCain probably encouraged his children to really believe in the boogeyman
The only platform upon which the Republicans can run on is one of constant, unending fear. We're supposed to be scared to death of every other country out there. They are all out to get us.

When a nice, little old lady gets pummeled by criminals, we all stop to ponder why they would do such a thing. But when a belligerent bully gets his comeuppance we aren't puzzled: He had it coming.

Does it ever cross the minds of these fearful citizens that America appears to be a bully to some people? Do they ever stop to wonder why there seems to be such hatred of us in certain regions of the world?
