Radio Lady: I am live blogging on radio this Saturday and you can reach me at 503-293-1902.
Hello, everyone from sea to shining sea. Today's the day that I'd like to call in any chips from you.

You can call the radio station lines (there are two of them) and talk just to me about anything. Sorry if it's a charge for you. I could call you back and put it on the station's dime, but you'll have to reveal your telephone number.

This program is NOT being broadcast; it's a test for possible usage of HD Radio and the TV channels that will replace the current Secondary Audio Programming (three new HD channels on the air by February 17, 2009.

I've explained it a little here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x2833569

10:01am here and no calls yet. 503-293-1902 is the KOPB AccessInfoNet number.

Is anybody home?

I'll talk with you alone!

1. you have a Listen Live link RL?
it would be a lot easier than to try and find it through the other thread...and break a leg as we like to say in the business

3. Unfortunately, no LIVE LISTEN link. You would hear only pre-recorded programs today.
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 01:27 PM by Radio_Lady
We are only doing this as an experiment to see if we can draw calls at all. It's a secondary audio channel with inadequate listenership and distribution which has been running since 1975. We have to show management that there would be an audience from a web site. I know that this sounds antique, and it is!

Still hoping someone would bring up an interesting topic or I can suggest something.

How about this? Call me at the radio station 503-293-1902.

Trust me -- we don't even have caller ID on these telephones, so I won't even know who you are. Think of this as CSPAN's "Washington Journal" but you can talk about anything and I won't be a zombie just taking your comments.

Is there no one is brave enough rr challenged enough to call?

Well, I'm kind of disappointed.

Should I try the Lounge where most people go to drink and carouse? I was hoping for a better level of conversation.

Peace, love and happiness,

Radio Lady Ellen

2. Are you struggling with any disabilities? If so, I recommend this book:
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 01:30 PM by Radio_Lady
"Strong at the Broken Places" by Richard M. Cohen. It's his second book and was #14 in the NY Times list last week.

The title refers to an Ernest Hemingway quote, and Richard has documented five people who are leading extraordinarily difficult lives due to chronic illness. He himself lives with the crushing burden of multiple sclerosis, diagnosed when he was 25 years old as well as bouts with colon cancer. But we all must endure some difficulties in this life and Richard paves the road from his own experience as well as that of the five people about whose lives he has written.

You can visit his website at: www.strongatthebrokenplaces.com

This show is scheduled to air next Wednesday, February 13 at 5pm Pacific Time. See my radio journal for information on how to hear my programs on the Internet.

Blessed be...

4. PS. Richard's wife is Meredith Vieria, the "Today" show host who replaced Katie Couric.

Maybe someone wants to gossip about "The View" or the "Today" show -- how it has changed, whether you get your network news via any of the anchorpeople on the network.

This is a big time for change in media. All broadcast stations have a little more than one year to replace their analog signals with digital signals. If you need to know more, check with any station for the descriptions.

Thanks for reading.

6. I would be happy to call and talk if I didn't go into a coughing fit
every time I try to talk. I'm sorry but I've been really sick with the flu.

7. Sorry you're sick. So is my husband... coughing like crazy! But this conversation
will NOT be recorded. It will be just you and me. I'd offer you a cough drop if I could... please get a glass of OJ or water and reconsider your call to me. At least, you're not spreading germs!

Peace, love and happiness. RL

11. BlackVelvet04, glad to speak with you, and I'm putting you on my buddy list.

She's sick in Roanoake, Virginia with a respiratory flu and her husband is sick, too. Let's send some vibes to her for getting better really soon. Maybe chicken soup would help! I'm doing the Nyquil thing and perhaps the doctor will prescribe Tussionex which I have found helpful in the past.

I do appreciate your call and hopefully we can use this kind of approach to launch a new service. Politics seems to be ruling the day, with people reporting their political views -- next call.

8. Caller #1 -- An anonymous woman from Michigan just rang me up! She gave me some names of
people I should contact to be guests. It's about the debacle in Michigan where the Democratic primary ballot got all screwed up and the woman was livid about it! I told her my daughter's in-laws voted absentee in Michigan because they spend their winters in Florida. All Bob remembers is that he voted for Clinton -- because there "was no one else on the ballot."

Has it been announced yet if Michigan or Florida delegates will be seated... or will Michigan have a do-over election?

Anyone else from Michigan want to field this caller?

Telephone 503-293-1902.

Open Forum Saturday on Speak Out Loud with Ellen Kimball -- working title of the show we are hoping to launch in the near-term future.

13. Caller #3 Kharmatrain! What a nice voice YOU have -- thanks for all the help you gave me
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 03:31 PM by Radio_Lady
last year. You were so nice to give me some suggestions and I guess we had talked before 'cause I had your telephone number. We have a lot in common; another retired radio guy. Do you have a web site? I forgot to ask you.

Yes, Chicagoland is one place I'd love to visit. Had air tickets to go there for the King Tut exhibit, but hubby got sick and we were able to turn in the tickets.

Your stories of earlier days of radio -- made my day today! Thanks, hon. CU@theDU.

14. Caller #4 is Proud to be Lib and we chatted about the Kansas caucus.
She's pretty optimistic since Kansas is a totally red state and so many Democrats turned out to vote. She said she didn't even THINK there were so many Democrats registered. Additionally, it was a hellish weather day. Got me thinking --- wasn't last Tuesday the day that the tornados struck?

What effect does weather have on your voting?

Oregon votes by mail so we won't have any results until May 20, 2008, I believe. We'll probably be headed to Boston that week. Should be interesting to see how this all develops, but I am already getting bored with politics.

Peace, love and happiness,

Ellen

Gotta shop for food or else we will have no real dinner.
