We're thinking of instituting a daily maximum number of threads anyone can post in GD: Primaries. |

But 86 is probably too many. I'd be confortable with something less than 8, but not less than 4. If there are several incredible developments, especially on a primary day, and if someone does their research, knows their stuff and writes well, limitations damage us.

7. Even more important, limit the number of recommends DUers can give to GDP threads |
|
Recommends are handed out like candy in GDP putting a ton of garbage threads on the Greatest Page making it worthless.
IMO.

12. I also think folks with Ignore Lists over a certain length should be blocked from starting threads |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 02:59 PM by TahitiNut
... in the Major Forums, where DUPLICATE (and vanity) threads are a plague. I'd place that Ignore List length limit to 10 entries. It seems to me that there's a point where ignoring other DUers should come at the cost of being prevented from posting "Me! Me! Me!" threads ... since it seems obvious that consideration for others isnpt a high priority. Indeed, DUers with lengthy Ignore Lists are FAR less likely to actually participate in DISCUSSION in the threads they initiate.

You already segregated posts into a separate 'Primaries' subgroup. Rather than limit posting, why cant readers of DU exercise a little restraint and ignore the threads or just stay out of the Primaries group?
If such a limitation is imposed I would suggest a high number.
Better yet, have you run statistics to see who the abusers are and what the quality of the messages are from those posters? Perhaps that would be a better, more scientific metric than everyone just guessing what number 'feels' right.
