There is on word you really just can't say: the c-word!
You can bunt or punt
grunt while you hunt
do a stunt you runt
but you can't say (insert c-word)

You can smoke a blunt
in the village of Lunt
and no it's affront
but you can't say (insert c-word)

11. Really? What was the context?
It's a word I never use, not because of fear of offense but because of a lack of context. I don't have a context for it that is not better met by other words - is it a purely sexual reference, or is it a sexual designation for a personality type, and if so, for what personality type? It is clearly not the female equivalant to calling a man a 'dick'; that would be 'bitch', I should think.

It seems to me to be nothing more than a condensation of all hateful thoughts about women - and I happen to like women, so it's a word I have no use for.

Fuck is OK, people say that all the time. With it's prevalence in culture it has become less taboo. But (c-word) is not used much and it's still very taboo.

Smoketoomuch: Yes, I'm sorry, I can't say the letter 'B'.
Bounder: C?
Smoketoomuch: Yes, that's right. It's all due to a trauma I suffered when I was a sboolboy. I was attacked by a bat.
Bounder: A cat?
Smoketoomuch: No, a bat.
Bounder: Oh...can you say the letter 'K'?
Smoketoomuch: Oh, yes. Khaki, kind, kettle, Kipling, kipper, Kuwait, Keble Bollege Oxford.
Bounder: Yes, yes but why don't you use the letter 'K' instead of the letter 'C'?
Smoketoomuch: What, spell bolour with a 'K'?
Bounder: Yes!
Smoketoomuch: Kolour!
Oh, thank you! I never thought of that. What a silly bunt.

25. Ugly, disgusting?
As I understand it, it is a word used in reference to a female body part. If one thinks it is ugly and disgusting, I can't imagine what she thinks about herself. This is the reason I absolutly abhor religion.. it teaches one to be self loathing.

46. I threw religion in because I think that is where self loathing stems from
But I have to say, that I've always felt it a compliment when people use words like cunt and bitch in reference to me as a women. It tells me that the person using those strong words are weak, feel powerless and are cowards. They will never win the real argument. So you see, I'm the one with the real power, therefore it's a compliment.

Both my own and my girlfriend's, which is why I hate that word. Like a poster said up thread, it's like all of this world's hatred and fear of women condensed into one ugly word.

Unless you equate the actual genitalia with a vile epithet, in which case I have to think you have major issues with female anatomy.

And yes, it is odd how dick and asshole {and the host of variants} are acceptable, yet cunt if forbidden ...when clearly one isn't any more sacred than the other.

17. I guess to some women it's like the N-word
I recently posted a video of Jarvis Cocker's song "****s are still running the world". I figured there was a good chance it would get pulled because some people would reflexively take offense to the C-word without bothering to take the message of the song in the spirit it was intended. I think it disappeared from DU political videos within about 20 minutes. I understand why, but it's strange the power that word seems to have.

52. my favourite responses to "you bitch" are: "AKC registered, darling"
or, "I am not A bitch, I am THE bitch, and to you, I am MS. Bitch"

taking back words that were originally respected titles of goddesses is reclaiming our power, and refusing to let others define us.

26. It is to me. The first time I heard it, it was used in anger....
nearly always in anger and as an expression of misogyny since then.

As a woman, I can own the word and use it in a positive context, but when a man uses it as an insult? Let's just say I lose a lot of respect for him and if he directs it at me, he may just end up with my fist in his face.

24. As a woman....I have no objection to it.....its just a word.....
as is many of the words people find offensive....just words.

I went to the Vagina Monologues...and I have now reclaimed that word....it has no power of offense over me any longer....

When it is used for hate......then those that use it in that context, I feel sorry for...for they are not worth my energies....not because they used the word...but because of their reasons for using it. HATE.

JMO.

48. "Just words" are very often the first step to physical abuse!
Use "just words" to weaken a person, and make her feel worthless, so she won't fight back when you begin hitting her.

All abuse advocates KNOW this, yet "progressives" want to say, "It's just a word... don't let it bother you."

BALDERDASH!

44. as inga muscio (and barbara g walker) have pointed out, that word was originally
a title of the goddess, and is, in fact, one of the root words in our language (knowledge, kin, etc.)

the last time a very angry man called me that (couldn't stand the fact that, unlike the women he knew, I bow to no man), I clapped my hand to my chest, and said, "ohh, you called me a ****) that's one of the titles of the goddess. I had NO idea you thought so highly of me" and gushed on like that for a minute or so. I guarantee he never used that word again.

most of the words deemed derogatory today were originally words of honour, and some of us claim them proudly. besides, it confuses the hell out of sexist jerks when one doesn't respond in shock.

I think it's so stupid
Girls won't say this word
Like asking everyone to not say shit, say turd
Fall back 5 yards it's time to punt

I think "gash" is offensive
Not to mention rude
And I don't think about eating it
When I'm eating food
There once was some dude on T.V.
His name was Alan Funt

Just say c*nt
Just say c*nt
Just say c*nt
Just say c*nt

{Motherf**king lead guitar}

I hope you're not offended
By this little tune of mine
So girls please don't start to flip out
To say c*nt is no crime
The littlest piglet in the litter
is called the runt

{Chorus}
