2. Wellstone "embarrassingly liberal" criticism became a rallying cry
I remember people sporting "embarrassingly liberal" buttons with pride in Minnesota in the 1990s :)

3. You know,
Every once in a while I remember why I don't own a TV. There are good and sufficient reasons.

4. Wow.
Well, PDJane, now I know why you come here. I am 52 years old and can't remember when I haven't had a tee vee. I do remember never turning it on, but not lately. So the internet is where you get your news, and not just this site? Newspaper(s)?

But :toast: to you!

6. I'm with you there.
I gave my TV away a year ago and haven't missed it for a minute.

Well... maybe a minute now and then... but not often! :D

7. I love how McCain can sing "Bomb bomb Iran" and talk about 10,000 years of war, but it's the L-word
...that's the one which will destroy a candidacy. Fucking please.

9. Maybe we should turn it around and start calling them liberals.
In Europe, the word liberal means right-winger. American conservatives are European liberals. Let's start using liberal in the European sense, calling people like Pat Buchanan liberals. It'll confuse the hell out of them and make the terminology more consistent.

I don't use the word liberal to describe myself or other left-leaning individuals. I use progressive. It doesn't have the same baggage that liberal does.

11. Shit, he's already been labeled that (he's even had the audacity to refer to himself as one).
It might get more strenuous if he takes the nomination, but the label's already here, and it hasn't killed him yet.

12. I like to ask people this question...
what has CONservatism ever done for the betterment of mankind? Haven't had it answered yet! They are so programmed to be on the attack against liberalism they never stop to think what it is that their own ideology offers.

13. How 1988.
Bushsr used the term as a smear in that election - and it stuck for awhile (no longer except among the conservotalkingheads). That year for halloween I dressed as the censored word "liberal".
