Another DU Rant: Conservative-Republican Hypocrisy/Republican Sexcapades
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 01:33 PM by ihavenobias
This was posted by a fellow DUer today. It's a clip of Charles Barkley on why he's endorsing Obama. Some of you may not find that interesting, except that he also touched on the subject of why he thinks so many conservatives are hypocrites: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x94176

And I want to elaborate on that specific idea.

Why don't those in favor of banning "gay marriage" (because it's supposedly a threat to marriage in general) ever talk about banning divorce or making adultery a felony (both absurd ideas IMO)? You know, trying to stop things that actually *might* be considered real threats to marriage and keeping families together.

Granted, the answer to me is obvious. Clearly it's because doing those things might actually *effect* them in some way, unlike marriage equality. There are far too many hypocrites in that regard. How many fundamentalists will ever even be in the position to have an abortion to begin with? Cross all of the men off of that list, and all of the older people that are past child-bearing age. Not to mention the fact that many of them don't use/believe in contraception (and WANT to have lots of kids and or have kids at a young age), meaning they don't have to face an unintentional/accidental pregnancy.

By the way, here's a good article by Christina Page on why family planning IS family values: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cristina-page/family-planning-is-family_b_77694.html

At any rate, these hypocrites LOVE to embrace issues which generally require no real sacrifice on their part. Instead of working on practical and real ways to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies (comprehensive sex education, free access to birth control, general education/after school programs, etc.), they put a "LIFE" sticker over their mouths and stand in front of a Planned Parenthood for a few hours(to make *themselves* feel better).

That's not even getting into the fact that so many conservatives that are supposedly all for "family values" are engaged in all sorts of mischievous (and or hidden, which makes it mischievous even if it'd be normal otherwise) sexual behavior. Cliff Schecter of www.BraveNewFilms.org even does what is almost a weekly segment on this topic called Republican Sexcapades, where he highlights (often with humor but also disgust) the most recent examples of Republican "Values" hypocrisy. Here's a good example that also explains the top 10 searches at the absurd www.conservapedia.com (can you believe it?) about 9 minutes in: http: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sfINL3QSWg&feature=related

In closing, yes, there is obviously hypocrisy in BOTH parties and there are sex scandals and such on the Democratic side of the aisle too. The difference is, the Democrats don't run on "family values" and dupe millions and millions of people to vote against their own interests just to support wedge issues that *shouldn't even be political issues* in the first place.

1. Fantastic Rant!
I will have to remember that point about divorce and adultery especially. And the Conservapedia list was so funny! For people who claim to be against homosexuality they sure do spend a lot of time thinking about it. :)
