Will Congressional Democrats Make the Ultimate Sacrifice? |
|
I am an Iraq War veteran, and I am severely disappointed that President Bush has not asked Americans to sacrifice more in support of the Iraq War effort. Severely injured veterans return to run-down, deplorable Army hospitals. President Bush encourages Americans to sacrifice by: increasing their consumption in an effort to boost economic growth, and by cutting taxes. Often times, we democrats scoff at this form of sacrifice. But I have a question for congressional democrats? Are you willing to sacrifice for America? Are you willing to cast the necessary votes to cut off funding for or to limit this war? Are you willing to sacrifice your elected office for America? As a new DU poster, I see the fervor with which many posters support the democrats and their cause. But when are we going to stop relying on President Bush to end the war in Iraq? Democrats have the constitional means to end this war. Are they willing to take responsibility and make the ultimate "sacrifice?"

I think the Congress has underestimated the resolve, and truly evil intent of Cheney, and the neocon nazis.
As you say, it is past time for them to act to stop this madness. We've got to keep the pressure on them, that's for sure.

Sacrifice - will dems risk their political careers to do the right thing? I hope so.
Will the congress and/or the president/ and/or those running for president ask the public to sacrifice? If we are not, as a full nation, ready to make our own personal sacrifices for a war (think WWII), than we have no business sending troops for that cause. That should be the bar before we go to war (or in this case continue the war). Is the public ready to pay x amount MORE in taxes a year? That is just a beginning point of 'shared sacrifice' that is *never* asked by bushco and the GOP. I do hope that the dems will behave differently. I wish their margins were larger - as esp in the senate the GOP can still stymie any dem action.

going to end the war because most are contemptible politicians just link the Republicans. Just look at how many had the courage to vote against the war in the first place.
