Don Knotts and Peter Boyle passing - anyone else feeling old tonight? |
|
Brought tears to my eyes. I grew up with those two. So many memories and laughs, seeing them again made me smile and then realize how old I have gotten.
Back in the day we had few TV stations, no computers, and getting to watch things like 'The incredible Mr. Limpet' or 'Young Frankenstein' was an occasional treat and delight.
I need to break out the cane and wax it :) Here's a beer to you fine fellows of times past.

But missing old friends. Old friends who were so generous with their talent. I miss being able to laugh at the comedy they brought.

9. I'm so glad they have that tribute every year. |
|
It's incredibly sad, but it makes you appreciate the fragility of life and the importance of doing something worthwhile with it.
Godspeed to the departed writers, actors, directors and others who gave us their best. Ya done good. :)

13. Me too. And I'm always amazed at how many deaths I'd forgotten |
|
about during the year, despite being somewhat of a news hound.
It's a wonderful tribute that usually leaves me all choked up.

11. I remember seeing Mr. Limpet in the theater! |
|
It played across town, not in the greatest neighborhood, but I had to go see it. I had to beg my parents to allow me to go with a friend to see it. I thought it was well worth it. Why it didn't play in the theater in my nieghborhood or even the one downtown (across the street from my father's store and the owner always let us go for free and even sit in the balcony when it was closed to everyone else! ) I'll never know.
A few years ago, I found myself teasingly saying to my son "Atta boy, Luther!" and he looked at me like I was crazy. That led to several weekends of renting Knotts movies so they could see them too. The Ghost and Mr. Chicken has always been one of my favorites!

Console Color Television Set! By Philco!
I watched some of it again just a week or so ago. It's held up well as entertainment.

14. Peter Boyle's "Joe" was the first dirty movie I kinda saw |
|
It actually was not marketed as an adult themed movie, but as a kind of civil rights view of a bigot movie. So my mother took my sister and I to see it.
At the first glimpse of T&A, my mother pushed me down below the seat, and with a few exceptions, I sat down there with the gum and spilt pop corn for the rest of the film.
I was about 11.
