Stop using the word "internets" (plural). Fool, you're playing into the hands of dark forces! |
|
What makes the Internet so revolutionary is it's unity with the whole world. It is a symbol of humanity's oneness.
It may be "cute" to poke fun at the dork who said it first but it seems to be catching on and my sensitivity meters are peaking.
Consider that those who want to control access *and* content would love to carve it up into parts to sell off and raise prices. We are already contending with government censorship in less-than-free countries. These are inroads to making it yet another capitalist commodity with infrastructure to control access and content. Remember the mantra - "divide and conquer". They know it and use it.
Remember, there is the public network and then there are private networks. The Internet is the public network and should remain singular for the sake of our future. Let's not be lulled into accepting the concept of more than one.
So stop stop this little, innocent play with words before it festers into an uncontrollable conceptual framework. Nip it in the bud.

9. Technically there are more than one internets. |
|
The split started in 83 when ARPANET and MILNET were split. Consider the internet we are all wasting our time on one of at least two separate global internets. The DOD maintains SIPRNET and it is separate from our lovely little waste of bandwidth. Quite likely the Chinese and the Russians and perhaps some other folks do something similar.
besides I like to make fun of that freaking evil bastard moran at every opportunity.

10. I would define SIPRNET as a "private" network |
|
It's not something everyone is invited to, so despite its global reach I wouldn't consider it to be what the "Internet" is as it's used in common language. Every large telcom has near global reach but they are privately controlled as well. The DOD has created its own telcom under its wing, internally managed, intersecting with every telcom player.
But "the Internet" is public and it's most redeeming assets, in my opinion, is that it connects people globally on "one" network. Physically, no. But logically, yes.
I can't speak the name of b*sh without a disparaging remark close to follow either. It's just that historically, everything the guy touches gets corrupted. We are defined by our words and our perception is colored by the concepts we hold. The use of the word "internets" seemed harmless at first. But it's spreading. I hear it everyday on the radio and in conversation. Mainly as a jibe against the originating jerk. However, there are a lot of well-moneyed interests who would love to cut up what little connection there is we share.
Call me paranoid but evil always enters with a smile and a dime through the door of triviality.

15. It is a separate network of networks, an internet. |
|
It is not one single network. It has all the infrastructure for routing and naming that is required to link multiple networks together, it is just off limits to us perps. So there is the internet which is the public global network of networks, and then there are other internets, like SIPRNET, which are also global networks of networks, just not public.
Technically the evil moran was correct when he said internets, but that was an accident.
