It is funny - in fact its hilarious! Its so monumentally stupid, such a gargantuan orgiastic epic of IDIOCY and utterly mindless confusion, hateful ignorance and wasted lives, material and energy, that the mind boggles and guffaws and withdraws into self administered statistical shock as western society implodes into a sickeningly shredded caricature of the hideously diseased values that it had supposedly been erected upon. I love the concept of America. A land full of benevolent, free, forward-thinking individuals, however, in truth, I detest Americans. I don't think you can find a more concentrated population of gluttonous, illiterate, willfully ignorant, spoiled, stupid, lazy and absolutely hideous, self-involved human beings on the planet, or likely in the Universe. The fact that most Americans can live their petty, self-important lives knowing we, as a collective have destroyed a nation and its people (who were far, FAR better than most Americans) for no reason is submitted as Exhibit A. I don't think it's funny. It's sad, and very, very disconcerting.

Great public health care? (As opposed to "health insurance"?)

Low infant mortality?

Low poverty?

Low disparity of wealth?

Long life expectancy?

Beautiful forests and natural areas?

Effective mass transit and long distance rail? Relative lack of sprawl (compared to US, at least)?

Honestly, I'm sure there must be downsides (racial homogeneity is one I can think of, long, dark winters...) but it has always seemed to me that Americans are self-satisfied despite the fact that, compared to most of the "developed" world, we've completely shat all over ourselves and most of our people all so that the sociopathic uber-rich can satisfy their sadistic drive to have more and more at everyone else's expense!

If the Swedes are unbearably self-satisfied, haven't they earned it? At least just a little?

But no, they look at the salaries of professional class and politicos in America and want the same for themselves.
