Gibney's Oscar acceptance speech for "Taxi to the Dark Side"
I would have loved to hear this live:
Wow. Thank you very much, Academy. Here's to all doc filmmakers. And,
truth is, I think my dear wife Anne was kind of hoping I'd make a romantic
comedy, but honestly, after Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, extraordinary
rendition that simply wasn't possible. This is dedicated to two people who
are no longer with us, Dilawar, the young Afghan taxi driver, and my
father, a navy interrogator who urged me to make this film because of his
fury about what was being done to the rule of law. Let's hope we can turn
this country around, move away from the dark side and back to the light.
Thank you very much.

See this film! http://www.taxitothedarkside.com/

The Discovery Channel dropped it's plans to air the film, but fortunately HBO picked it up. Keep an eye out for it in September, or better yet, see it at the cinema because with Rove still on the loose, HBO may experience a September blackout.

Gibney also gave us "The Smartest Guys in the Room" about Enron. http://www.enronmovie.com/

6. I saw it in Brookline (Boston) over the weekend...
It's very well done and very moving. It should be shown on every network, but of course, that won't happen.

7. You are lucky.
The places in this country where it needs to be shown (where people still believe some of the lies and erroneous concepts) probably won't happen.

14. They will be showing parts of it and "No End in Sight" soon on Link TV...
... when they go into their fund raising campaign this coming weekend. Also some other good stuff like "The Corporation" and "Orwell Rolls in His Grave". Not sure how much they will show, but I'm sure it would be a sizable enough snippet of both to keep us somewhat satiated before it gets to theaters or on DVD.

Also clips from "Uncounted", and Greg Palast's "The Election Files".

5. Only Impeachment Move Us To The Light
Even the Hillabama hope-pushers merely ask us to go forward in dishonesty and willful ignorance.

Impeachment is our ONLY moral, patriotic option.

12. I was hoping that Tommy Lee Jones would win for In the Valley of Elah...
... I would have liked to have seen him speak on that too. It would have been nice to see him "turn around" from having been in "Rules of Engagement" some years back, that sent out just about the opposite message.

In a way, I'm kind of surprised that he didn't. It would have also been a way to honor him for his role also in "No Country for Old Men", which was cleaning up elsewhere last night.

The Kite Runner winning music score might also have brought out an interesting speech too, had that happened.

16. I think "In the Valley of Elah" is the best movie in the last five years.
Compared to it, "There Will Be Blood" was a mining instructional training film.

Too bad so few people saw "Elah" -- I think it grossed under $5 million. In that situation, even the nomination for Tommy Lee Jones was an unexpected honor.
