27. "Why do you want the Republicans to win?"
Every time I ask the question you asked, this is the only answer I ever get.

The either/or mentality is absolute: Either you follow orders and vote for everyone with a D after their name no matter how corrupt or neo-con they may be, or you are a GOP supporter who would relish to see the United States destroyed. There seems to be no middle ground.

62. And the post I was responding to won't?
I will vote for the Dem candidate in November. In all likelyhood, a straight ticket even. But I realize that Dems are not perfect.

Yes, the Dem Congress has been a disappointment. However, they are better than the Republicans. And we only really have two choices. Therefore, a Democrat not voting is supporting (indirectly) the republican party. Because one of those two pareties is going to win. Unless there is another alternative that I am not aware of. Hence my question: "What else ya got?"

75. You absolutely right, Divide and conquer has been long in the making.
This truth is well known among our principal men now engaged in forming an imperialism of Capital to govern the world. By dividing the voters through the political party system, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance. Thus by discreet action we can secure for ourselves what has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished. Sir Denison Miller

Maybe laughing as I often do, with near-manic frustration at the insanity that has become "normal."

The Peter Principle is alive and well and functioning at full steam, along with massive corruption, in American government!

Promote them to their level of INcompetence, then leave them there forever ... makes perfect sense, yeah? How pathetic can things get before more people express their outrage? Apparently VERY pathetic, even ridiculously pathetic.

21. I have to wonder...
Could it be that, since it's Democrats who are initiating this craziness and pushing it to the limit, is it just possible that they are thinking their constituents will see their going after an uber-repuke Clemens as "fighting back against the repuke machine"??

Surely they're not that stupid? Oh wait....

What is likely to result instead is more of what happened during the televised testimony before the committee: Repukes ranting that MacNamee is the liar and Clemens is a model of honorable American idoldom, while Dems try to point their crooked fingers at Clemens as a proper representative of hypocritical repuke denials of wrongdoing.

Oh, now won't THAT just be fun to watch. NOT. Another spectacle, brought to you by the masters of spectacle without substance, with the specific intention of furthering divisive rancor so that The People just keep on getting angrier at each other instead of those we should ALL be angry at.

ENOUGH, already!!! :grr:

29. Steroids
This ridiculous war on steroids has been going on since the eighties, when the media collaborated in whipping-up a frenzy about something that most people had never heard of before. First they targetted bodybuilders, knowing that it wasn't popular, and they could get away with ruining people's lives in that arena. Now that America's Pastime is finally being spotlighted, people are seeing how dumb the whole thing is. A hormone that the body produces classed the same as heroin? It's just one more way to keep people distracted from the real issues. There is nothing remotely "natural" about sports, period. Who cares what professional athletes choose to do to improve their performance? Our country is gong down the tubes, and this is what they choose to focus on? Incredible.

48. And then made vehement denials about it
if they were ever questioned or called on it at all, that is.

I don't even believe it's "half of them" any more, either!

This sort of constant and very blatant hypocrisy on the part of virtually ALL of our "elected representatives" who fail to represent US or even remember we exist once they arrive in D.C. just makes me see red.

There was a time when to call someone a hypocrite or a liar was a serious insult that required a response, but no more. Like every other righteous accusation of wrongdoing, such a cry falls on totally deaf ears. They know they've already hoodwinked us, to have gotten their asses into such cushy seats in the first place, so nothing we can do, even voting them out of office, really matters.

They've got their greedy fingers into the public till gravy train and will always have great health care and nice pensions. Most of them have gotten rich(er) and/or helped their friends and future corporate employers get rich(er).

I don't think they even care if they get an ounce of respect from the public anymore. Why should they care? It's all a rigged game, and I think they know we know it. Do they simply believe we don't care about that either?

The sickening cooperation between those representing the two parties and themselves instead of the citizens of this nation has gotten so grievously obvious I don't see how anyone can ignore it any longer.

It's now open contempt for the American people, and they might as well be saying to our faces: "Yeah? Well whaddaya gonna DO about it!" Like the thugs they are.

72. Would Someone Be So Kind and Show Me How To Get A Story Out?
I am trying to get a story out that shines light on ?WHY? the US Attorney Purge and the role Carl Rove, Alberto Gonzales, Bradley Schlozman and the Administration played in the scheme. http://www.medicalsupplychain.com/Lipari%20v%20Novation.htm and http://www.medicalsupplychain.com/pdf/Lipari%20v%20Novation%20et%20al%20Petition%20.pdf

The scheme was designed to eliminate Medicare and Medicaid so there is no oversight to the ongoing health care fraud. The pilot program was called "Insure Missouri". The story also unearths billions misappropriated for cancer research.

Thanks, S~

117. I don't know if you can get a multi-billion $ fraud story told.
The Medical Supply Chain as well as the timely deaths of Shannon Ross and Thelma Colbert have been told here by L. Coyote and others. But somehow the bleeding to death of our country by politically well connected crime families is of no interest. Billions being lost through "privatized" (but you still pay for it) defense contractors, the unbelievable story of hospital GPOs (which even Michelle Obama has a link to) and the ongoing complete lack of representation of the public interest in Washington... nope, I don't know how to get that story told.

They have bankrupted our country. Whether it's the war, the healthcare fraud, the banking fraud, the securities fraud or the buying and selling of officials fraud, wrap yourself in tinfoil because no one's interested in reporting the corruption.

78. January 20, 2004 State of the Union Address

To help children make right choices, they need good examples. Athletics play such an important role in our society, but, unfortunately, some in professional sports are not setting much of an example. The use of performance-enhancing drugs like steroids in baseball, football, and other sports is dangerous, and it sends the wrong message -- that there are shortcuts to accomplishment, and that performance is more important than character. So tonight I call on team owners, union representatives, coaches, and players to take the lead, to send the right signal, to get tough, and to get rid of steroids now.

89. You have many brothers out here who believe the same

The fetishism of the commodity — the domination of society by "intangible as well as tangible things" — attains its ultimate fulfillment in the spectacle, where the real world is replaced by a selection of images which are projected above it, yet which at the same time succeed in making themselves regarded as the epitome of reality.
-- Guy Debord, Society of the Spectacle

The enormous gap between what US leaders do in the world and what Americans think their leaders are doing is one of the great propaganda accomplishments of the dominant political mythology.
-- Michael Parenti

The goal is to keep the bewildered herd bewildered. It's unnecessary for them to trouble themselves with what's happening in the world. In fact, it's undesirable — if they see too much of reality they may set themselves to change it.
-- Noam Chomsky

The illusion of freedom in America will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre.
-- Frank Zappa

104. Zappa was a genius. Chomsky was a visionary.
Parenti's statements about racism have had great impact on my thoughts. Guy Debord...I will now have to add him to my collection of books...thank you for the citations...it is nice to learn I have brothers.

I remember seeing Zappa live in St. Petersburg Florida back in the late 70's...It was the first 'rock' concert I ever went to where no one said a word the entire concert - people would hush you if you dared speak while he was playing. Frank played for 3 hours, almost non-stop. My brain felt like clay in a maestro's hands, being molded and shaped into something that would forever change the way I thought about the world - and no, I took no drugs. When he finished, you could hear the entire auditorium full of people exhale.

Peace.

110. ALEX JONES
You may think he's tinfoil hat and I think he is sometimes, but let's face it, he's often correct. He said something in one of his documentaries about the distraction of the masses (while the cash passes, way over our heads). Those who've seen me post before know I like the big picture and we must look, yet again, above the fray of this issue. Yes, it's messed up that we have Waxman and others 'concerned' and 'demanding investigations' while they won't do shit to go after Bush and those in his neo-con network of evil. But Alex alluded to a bigger picture than merely this...

He spoke of how serious the issues were, of monetary policy, WTO/NAFTA et. al ruining our economy and possibly dooming America. How, as we know, staged terror is used to generate fear and votes... But he pointed out the distractions we know of, Hollywood, scandal, no need to say more. But he said something that many miss. The distraction of Sports. Even with no investigation, no controversy, and not a drop of steroids ever used. The typical American male (and since they make up 90% of politicians, this is a significant group) and many women, are very concerned with sports.

I'm constantly amazed at the hoo-ha over draft-picks, distant college team rivalries, and even how many are into 'fantasy football' as if the bullshit games aren't hyped enough for them. They just can't spend enough time with their eyes off the issues that really affect them and ignoring their wives or beating them up if they dare step between them and the all important game on TV. Almost seems like a closet-gay thing similar to the Dobson (you know he is) and Larry Craig crews that represent the evangelicals and right wing politicos. But I digress, the issue is distraction.

So many can tell you every score from the games the night before, who got picked in a draft, even how much every player on their favorite team weighs. But they can't find Iraq on a map, take the 9/11 report in total trust, and vote for candidates based on macho bluster vs. what they will, in office, actually do that affects their lives. McCain has that macho thing down and their votes, automatically. They hate Kucinich for his stature, haircut or the british accent of his wife (and anger that she's hotter than their wives are). They don't vote for 1/2 black men or women, etc.

Never mind the layoff or undocumented worker that may put them out of work, the falling dollar that means the little money they've left is worth less, or his new advocacy to keep tax cuts in place for the super rich, with no mention or plans to give the little guy a cut. Bashing the unions that legislation McCain supported, or would propose and support, had helped take power from. The audacity of a group of non-management workers (like them) to want to collectively ask to make a safe living! Bootstraps bootstraps! Yeah, give them some when they need money to pay their bills. Idiots.

But everything he'd do would be against the little guy. His 'maverick, independent and straight talk' bullshit wins them over, unable to see past the bumper sticker attention span they have, they miss that none of the above bears true in most of his record, in fact, he's quite the opposite with rampant double talk, GOP partisanship, and ass kissing of Bush, the worst thing that ever happened to America, quite possibly. But hey! He's no bore like Gore was, they'd love to have a beer with him (and maybe some Larry Craig action later on?) and we know how important that is...America!

Like sports. Don't get me wrong, I do occasionally watch a few games, not all who are into sports are like that, but so many are, and tell me you don't know dozens like this. Out of touch on politics altogether, or what is really happening in the world, but obsessed with sports. It seems like you can't do both in most cases. If you remove sports, E! News Hollywood gossip bullshit, the fake reality EMPTY-V shows, even the new line of 'tell the truth and ruin your family' bullshit do anything for money shows (what's next, self-mutilation/immolation for money?) you'll find a giant black hole for these people. Throw in My Space/You Tube and shopping for bling/'stuff' and I swear -what would these people have to do when not working for the giant machine that feeds them this?
