If you carefully merge that I and that D, you can make an easy R out of it.

WTF? Sanders is just "I".
There's no such thing as an "Independent Democrat"! If they want to label him, he should be CfL.

I'm almost there with regarding being "done"
The dems have not done anything aside from a non-binding resolution regarding the Iraq "surge". The minimum wage has flopped and nobody knows or cares. Also the pro-Hillary lobby will ensure that nothing else changes. There will be more smoke blown up our asses regarding healthcare tax cuts, no child left behind, and so-help-god if he says "switchgrass" one more time I'm jumping off the roof. Either that or I'm paddling my kayak to Cuba.
peace, xanax, and beer.

16. How is this the Dem's fault? |
|
They all voted the right way. Even the Nelsons and Landrieu. Even Lieberman voted the right way. We didn't get enough Republicans. We can't control what they do.

25. they all voted for their 100 hour plan in the Congress.. |
|
but after that, they abandoned the war issue. People who say that the debate is ongoing need to remember that some troops have already been redeployed for the 5th time. I live at the end of the runway at the largest airfield in the southeast. I watched the troop transport planes take off more than two weeks ago with troops who had been sent in as a part of the surge (the 3rd Infantry Division and members of the 82nd Airborne). None of the dems want to cut off funding for the escalation because of the political ramifications. they don't want to "appear" as being anti troop. How is it "anti troop" to want to bring them home. Money and plans are in place and on file to bring the troops home. Before they ever ship out, return plans are made. So this fear that the soldiers will be sitting in the desert without food, water, and supplies is bull shit. If the war was cancelled today, the generals and logisticians would go to the plan that is in place for the exit from the field. There are contingency plans in place to get all of the troops out in a hurry if needed, or in the event of an escalation into a regional nuclear war. All they have to say is, "Out, Now" and the plan would be followed to expedite their removal.

10. The minimum wage is going to be increased |

It is just going to have to be amended to give a tax break to small businesses. A slim majority in the Senate means that compromises will be necessary if we want anything positive done.

14. So much for bipartisanship. |

Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 04:14 PM by racaulk
From my look over the voting roster, with very few exceptions (Specter, Snowe, Collins, Coleman, and Warner) almost every single Republican voted "Nay" on a motion that is clearly desired by most Americans and that passed in the House by an overwhelming majority.
Why didn't these Senators listen to, oh I dunno, their constituents that elected them?!?!?!? Perhaps it's because they know that when it comes time for reelection, there will be enough politically ignorant and apathetic Faux News-watching dumbasses in their constituencies making poverty level wages that will vote for them just because they are not the "liberal Democrat" that "wants to raise taxes."
So when it comes to the Senate, Big Business wins and the people lose.
Again.
:argh:
Edited to add Coleman and Warner.

One of these days, I'll give up on them, but I still keep trying. I guess we're just going to have to kick them out when they come up for reelection.
Thanks for all your hard work, Sapphire Blue. It will pass eventually, I'm sure, but it'll have to have a fricking tax cut that the rich don't need attached to it.

I knew calling their offices was a waste of time and breath. Unfortunately, neither is up for reelection until 2010. :(

For some reason, I thought Chambliss was elected in 2004 and Isakson in 2006. I'm two years behind, apparently. Good, that means I can begin my work to get rid of Chambliss even sooner!
Thanks for the correction! :hi:

your state legislature can be voted out too. Remind them of this. In one of its few good moves NY raised its minimum wage a while ago. Its kicks up to 7.00 or more this year.

I don't know where you live, but here we have two bush ditto heads as our Senators. I was part of an organized effort to call them and urge them to support this as is. Needless to say our efforts fell on deaf ears. I'm not complaining that their idiots - I already knew that fact - but rather I keep reminding myself that Cornyn is up for re-election in '08. Perhaps this will be one shovelfull too many out of the whole he's been digging himself into.
