Congratulations to Dennis Kucinich
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 11:38 PM by Wetzelbill
His win is a true win for the people of America. Nobody is a more dedicated fighter for the people than DK. He's a consistent progressive and serves his district and our country well. If we only had hundreds more like him in Congress the world would be a better place.

Dennis Kucinich leads in bid to retain 10th District congressional seat

Posted by Molly Kavanaugh March 04, 2008 22:46PM
Updated at 12:20 a.m Wednesday

Despite a well-financed, aggressive opposition campaign and the distractions of a failed presidential bid, Rep. Dennis Kucinich appears to be headed back to Congress.

With 204 of 641 precincts reporting, Kucinich had 26,845 votes to his nearest challenger, Cleveland Councilman Joe Cimperman, with16,6144 votes. Other challengers: Barbara Ann Ferris, 3,192 votes; Thomas O'Grady, 2,694, and Rosemary Palmer, 1,941.

The 10th District Democratic congressman was facing his first threat of losing the seat he has held for 12 years. Kucinich spent thousands of dollars on television ads and agreed to debate his opponents, chief rival Joe Cimperman and three other candidates.

The 61-year-old former Cleveland mayor said he was encouraged by the results. "I am also encouraged because I know of all the hard work you have all put in," he told supporters at the North Shore AFL-CIO Federation of Labor union hall.

Cimperman hammered away at Kucinich's second long-shot presidential bid, constantly citing votes he missed in Congress while running for the White House and the financial support he received from Hollywood stars like Sean Penn.

Action center Kucinich supporters are gathering at

to help support peace candidates in every district who will also vote yes on HR676-single payer health care and support Kucinich for Speaker of the House.

116. Be still my beating heart!
First of all, a slug would be more honest and efficacious than Nancy Pelosi;
even a dead slug!
But Dennis as Speaker? Wow! That would be incredible!
There is NO WAY Congress could have that terrible approval rating it has now, and we'd finally see the wheels of good old blind, inexorable American Justice turning for the principle of The Rule of Law -- NOT for just the prosecution of cases that'd win because they're a sure thing (and Justice be damned!) or only cases politically pleasing to everyone in the country, even the psychotic percentage who are never pleased with anything

especially one of their crooked pols getting their comeuppance.!

However WITH so many wimps in Congress as we have now we stand as much chance of Thomas Jefferson, Madison or Monroe rising from the dead and presiding as we do of Dennis Kucinich becoming Speaker

Seems to me most of our elected representatives of both parties (but here I'm mainly concerned with Democrats -- corruption and/or perversion s a given if they're Repugs)are tainted and cowering due to whatever Bush, The Dick, & Rove et.al. dug up with their illegal wiretaps.
Sadly, or perhaps not-so-sadly, most of our ensconced politicians have to go.

112. I agree
It was sad the way that many dismissed him and the corps went after him. Even today when Salon had to eat their words about him, they referred to him as a fringe candidate in the presidential race. Dennis would have made a great Prez and is a terrific Congressman. Grats to him and the 10th district.

I wish we were cheering his victory as the Democratic nominee for POTUS, but keeping him in Congress in spite of gargantuan Corporate/DLC efforts to oust him is still a major victory for the "people".

85. Good old unelectable Kucinich
who carries 50% of the vote with 4 challengers. Go figure.

The only good news of this election AFAIAC is that he is on his way to another term in the house. Good for his district in Ohio (thank you one and all) and good for every one of us in this country. His influence is so needed.

What is his opponent like for the general? How much do we need to worry and how much should we kick in?

I am just soooo happy that he beat the well funded campaigns of the others. It ought to be a lesson to Democrats all over, that if you stand for your people and work for them and not their "overlords" you will be a popular representative and not have to worry overly much about people flipping their votes.

Trakas Announces Congressional Bid; Someone Light the Barbecue

Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 02:10:55 PM

http://blogs.clevescene.com/cnotes/2007/12/trakas_announces_congressional.php

Jim Trakas is hoping West Side voters
may actually support a Republican

The battle for Dennis Kucinich’s congressional seat in 2008 is so hot it could toast a Pop-Tart. Since the West Side congressman decided three years ago that it would be way more fun to represent Hawaii and California – “Bill it to that old lady on East 55th Street!” -- there’s been an upsurge of resentment against the little guy. Four Democrats have already hopped into the race, led by downtown Councilman Joe Cimperman.

Now the GOP has announced its long-shot pony, former state Rep. Jim Trakas. He may be one of the brighter minds in local politics, but to West Side voters, supporting a Republican is like French-kissing your elderly aunt. A Plain Dealer scribe referred to Trakas as his party’s “sacrificial lamb.”

C-Notes was intrigued, so we decided to get the scoop straight from the ewe’s mouth: Was Trakas in the race just so the GOP could say it tried, or did he really think he had a chance? And how many times did he watch Rocky III the night before his announcement?

We reached Trakas on the side of a road, where his car had run out of gas. If we were clever, we’d snootily note that it was an apt metaphor for his campaign.
But we’re not – I mean, that’s gotta be obvious, isn’t it? -- so we’ll just transcribe the interview:

C-Notes: Are you the GOP’s sacrificial lamb?

Trakas: (chuckling) I’m Greek, so people call me a lamb a lot. What brought me into the race was people telling me, ‘We like you and we just don’t think Kucinich is getting the job done.’

C-Notes: So you’re not, you know, taking one for the team on this one?

Trakas: If I didn’t think it was doable, I wouldn’t be in the race.

C-Notes: What would you say are your odds of winning this?

Trakas: I’m not a gambling man, so I won’t make odds on myself. I understand the needs of the people, and I hope that 50 percent plus one of the voters agree with me.

C-Notes: Seriously, you’re jumping in front of a speeding bullet on this one, right?

C-Notes: Sticking out your shoulder as the pitch comes in?

C-Notes: Pushing the baby carriage off the tracks, but then your pant leg gets stuck as the train approaches?

C-Notes: Hello?

-- Gus Garcia-Roberts

DK will still need our support in November though. It isn't over yet....
