Philip Shenon recounts the research and drafting of The 9/11 Commission Report and profiles the commission's members, including its chairman Tom Kean, vice chairman Lee Hamilton, and executive director Philip Zelikow. Mr. Shenon reports that Mr. Zelikow's former ties with the Bush administration gave the apperance of a potential conflict of interest throughout the investigation. Philip Shenon discusses his book with Michael Duffy, assistant managing editor at Time Magazine.

Richard Rayner, The Associates: Four Capitalists Who Created California
Richard Rayner chronicles the four men who financed the Transcontinental Railroad. Collis Huntington, Charles Crocker, Mark Hopkins, and Leland Stanford were commonly known as The Associates. Mr. Rayner presents the business partners as by- products of a win-at-all costs business ethos influenced by the California Gold Rush and contends that their interest in money was far greater than their desire to unite the country via the railroad. This event was hosted by the California Historical Society in San Francisco.

Wayne Perryman, Unveiling the Whole Truth: What the Media Failed to Tell American Voters
Rev. Wayne Perryman takes a critical look at the media's coverage of major news stories over the past seven years during this keynote address at the Whatcom County Republican Party's 2008 Lincoln Day Dinner. The dinner was held at a hotel in Bellingham, Washington.

Mike Moore, Twilight War: The Folly of U.S. Space Dominance
Mike Moore takes a critical look at U.S. outer space policy since the signing of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty. Mr. Moore argues that, in contrast to the purpose of the treaty, the U.S. government's efforts to dominate space will lead to conflict. The talk was hosted by the Independent Institute in Washington, DC.

Benjamin Powell, Making Poor Nations Rich
Editor Benjamin Powell and contributors Alvaro Vargas Llosa and George Ayittey discuss ways for poor countries to grow economically. The participants argue that growth through entrepreneurship does more to help the poor than redistribution of wealth does. This discussion was held at the Independent Institute in Washington, DC.

Edward Lucas, The New Cold War: Putin's Russia and the Threat to the West
Edward Lucas talks about Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin. Mr. Lucas says that during Putin's reign, Russia has become more autocratic and more hostile towards the U.S. and Europe. Mr. Lucas spoke at an event hosted by Radio Free Europe's offices in Washington, DC.
