Special election in Illinois tomorrow for Hastert's seat
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 12:38 AM by wicasa
How many people here even know that there is a special election (not a primary) to fill Hastert's seat for the rest of this term?

Not only that, but Congressional Quarterly has moved its rating of the seat for the November election from "leans Republican" to tossup in the past week.

Not only that but surveyusa.com, in the only poll that I've been able to find tonight shows the Democrat leading buy 53% to 46% among likely voters, and credit;s Obama'a influence on this election year in general for making this a competitive race.

If this goes anything like I would expect, whoever wins tomorrow will have a significant edge when the same candidates go head to head again for the same congressional seat in November.

2. Oberweiss is an unusually appealing man. I talked with a Republican from Hastert's district who
said he would never vote for "such a wretched human being".

4. He is truly vile. And is it odd that I get road Rage when I drive by his signs?
Or this big truck parked in a shopping center lot? I have visions of pulling of the road and running my minivan up the hill and plowing right through it... Then I remember that I don't drink or do drugs - so I wouldn't have an excuse when the cops come for me

5. Some DU'ers Have Been Busy This Week...Go Bill Foster!!!
Check the Illinois Forum...several of us have been canvassing, phone banking and other efforts to take this seat. I'll be volunteering to get some folks to the polls tomorrow morning and hope to get some very good news later in the day. This is a district I've lived in and around for mearly 30 years...never has there been a Democrat representing the area...tomorrow could change that.

It's sad there's not more attention here on DU, but some here would rather fling poo.

Cheers...

7. Glad you are active on the scene.
I didn't know about it out here in South Dakota until I happened to notice something online last night.

It was partly in hopes of refocusing the priorities of the poo flingers that I made my post.

8. Things Are Looking Very Good...
Just came back from helping some real nice folks brave cold weather and cast their votes. Almost all were "lifelong repugnicans"...or hadn't voted for a Democrat since Johnson...but they didn't trust the Milk Nazi and felt the repugnican party needed a wake-up message. If this is a message they want to send, I hope it spreads to districts all across the country.

The polls were very busy, but several others reported that turn out has been light due to it being a Saturday. Here's hoping people who usually vote before going to work will stop in during the afternoon.

Cheers...
