Tucker Carlson gets "Peeved" (and pwned!) by a real journo who won't play politics
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 02:08 PM by johnfunk
Glenn Greenwald has a must-read take on yesterday's live-on-MSNBC dust-up between Scotsman reporter Gerri Peev and game-show host Tucker Carlson.

APJ's Gene Gaudette goes one step further, saying it was not only a prime example of the media's "role" but their culture and methodology.

Both are worth a look. And watch the festivities at MSNBC. (Does it stand for "Make Sure Nobody Butchers Carlson"?)

1. lol! game show host
I thought you were taking a shot at him, since that describes pretty well what he's been doing with his career, but in fact that link is to a story about him actually hosting a game show.

I hope he's starting a trend of "journalists" like him getting out of the game.

8. Getting out of the game...
... or getting INTO it, as the unctuous host. Tucker combines the very worst attributes of Monty Hall and Joe Pyne into one of the media's most malodorous personas.

3. Yes, Tucker and the American "journalists" are that "acquiescent" ...
If Bush or a Republican makes a major blunder, they don't even bother asking if that was off the record ... they just assume it is and quietly cover it up ...

However, if a Dem makes even the slightest statement which would be taken in a method that would boggle Rube Goldberg's mind, the "journalists" are not acquiescent ... hell, they'll even stretch it so far as to have absolutely no resemblance to what was said in the first place ... and, failing that, they'll make shit up ...

4. Thanks for the post...
...amazingly revealing.

What really chapped my hide was Tucker -- Tucker F'in Carlson -- lecturing Gerri Peev on the low standards of journalism in the UK vs. in the US.

I believe that is why Tucker is still on the air, he is a bought and paid for and very, very loyal purveyor of the propaganda of the overlords. You can sense it coming out of his every pore, the sense of entitlement, the "we're the greatest, the rest of you are shit" attitude, the vapidness and yet, how strongly held his sham beliefs really are.

What a sniveling little pissant he really is. I'd like to waterboard him. Just so he could for once in his pathetic little life, actually know whereof he speaks.

5. This media mindset of everything is confidential unless permission to report is granted is bizarre.
Exactly what are these reporters reporting if it isn't the result of the interview? And if your source refuses to speak unless it is off the record, then what the hell is the point?

This really does explain much -- sources are using the media to spread selective aspects of the truth and to get into print "facts" that are likely to be useful lies.

6. On APJ...
...I turned to the page after Gaudette's where Steve Young writes: "Probably the only comedy campaign stop where you might get unexpected hard questions, that by now should be expected, is Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show."

Maybe I've been watching the wrong show but I see Jon Stewart become rather fawning when his high profile guests appear. He's not confrontational at all.

9. Agreed. Stewart's getting too accomodating...
... too often. That may be why Young chose the qualifier "perhaps".

7. That's weird.
I was watching the show when he started that interview. And the show kept going off - the station just went to black, except for their crawl.

Then started a Lexus commercial. Then cut that 10 seconds or so in, and went back to black.

10. BREAKING: Tuckder's MSNBC Show CANCELLED!

Tucker Canceled; Other Programming Changes Ahead

Insiders tell TVNewser Tucker Carlson's 6pmET show Tucker is getting the axe, but Carlson stays on as a political contributor to all MSNBC shows at least through the 2008 election. The official announcement, expected tomorrow, will include details about who will replace Tucker at 6pmET as well as other political programming additions. Sources say the network is going to beef up its schedule with more NBC News talent.

In recent days, Jossip, as well as other blogs, ratcheted up the talk that Tucker would be replaced "for a new project." In its 33-month run, Carlson's show has had two names, four time slots and multiple formats. At 6pmET, it builds on its Harbdall lead-in on some days, but loses audience on others.
