(Not saying Spitzer's not wrong here) but, if he were caught through the use of illegal wiretapping...if...how many other democratic officeholder's might also be being wiretapped?

4. A bunch of folks here point to an ongoing investigation... |
|
...and try to smash suspicions with talks of "Tin Foil Hats". I wonder how these same posters think the administration would present information gained from 6-7 years of illegal spying??? Did they think Bush would throw a little press conference and play the tapes??? Or, if they've known this for several years (hearing of prostitutes on multiple illegal taps) would they not START the investigation at the other end with full and certain knowledge of what and when the outcome would be??? I don't know that this IS the case, but I DO think that's how the information would be used.

6. They will need to prove their evidence is legally obtained |
|
and if it was through warrantless wiretapping, by many former precedents, Spitzer's off the hook.
It may actually backfire and put W on the hook, which would be just wonderful.

7. You do not want to tie warrantless wiretaps into any criminal investigation. |
|
Good way to lose all of your evidence via the "tainted fruit" doctrine.
And there's no need, as warrants for investigating ongoing criminal enterprises are silly easy to get.

8. I can't believe the delusion here. |

It's NOT a conspiracy by the Bush administration and it's NOT a conspiracy to use "terror" to illegaly wiretaps Democratic officials.
This is a prostitution ring that's been investigated before -- by Spitzer himself -- and is now being investigated by the FBI. Remember all the hubbub after it came out the FBI was wiretapping prostitution rings before 9/11, instead of the 19 hijackers?
The FBI's been legally wiretapping them for years to gather evidence for a wholesale prosecution, and it turns out that Spitzer himself turns up on the tapes a few years into the investigation.
People need to start taking their meds.

11. Timing is everything. |

Perhaps Spitzer is just an unfortunate case...if we see 5-6 more prominent Democrats go down before the election, lets just say it'll be an amazing coincidence. Because we just know that this DOJ doesn't play politics...:sarcasm:

12. why would the FBI be using illegal wiretaps in surveilance of prostitution ring? |
|
Spitzer was not being wiretapped; rather it was the Emperors Club the FBI was wiretapping

It was a legal wiretap placed on the escort company's phone. This is getting absurd.
