No WMD, no Saddam-Al Qaida link? Oops! - Today’s Headlines 3/11/08 |
Top StoryExhaustive review finds no link between Saddam and al Qaida WASHINGTON — An exhaustive review of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents that were captured after the 2003 U.S. invasion has found no evidence that Saddam Hussein's regime had any operational links with Osama bin Laden's al Qaida terrorist network. The Pentagon-sponsored study, scheduled for release later this week, did confirm that Saddam's regime provided some support to other terrorist groups, particularly in the Middle East, U.S. officials told McClatchy. However, his security services were directed primarily against Iraqi exiles, Shiite Muslims, Kurds and others he considered enemies of his regime. 3,980 of our military dead, tens of thousands mentally and physically injured, many of whose lives will never be the same. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead or wounded, millions displaced. Billions of dollars spent, soon to be trillions. Do we just say, “Oops?”—Caro So why, oh, why, did we ever invade that damned country? 2. It will not stop the right wing from using the claim come fall |
They know that it will not get mentioned by the talking heads and that most of America has become addicted to the talking heads and listens to what they say. If if doesn't get mentioned there, it will never be believed.

4. IIRC, those were the ONLY two conditions that the WH had to meet in |
order for IWR to be active....there had to be an imminent threat and the action had to relate to 9/11. As discussed in Worse than Watergate (John Dean) the administration letter showing that the conditions had been met was -- at the time -- laughably weak and it was irresponsible for to accept it. This represents the SECOND failure by congress (the first was passing the original IWR) to oversee and think about the rush to war.

6. hmmm, I've been thinking . . . |
it always gets me in trouble. If mass graves were uncovered in Iraq, how did all those people get in there. Do you think it was mass suicides or what? I'm thinking that they didn't all decide one day to go into the country for a picnic, lay down in a hole and die? hmmm, makes you think doesn't it?
