http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/02/27/news/iran.phpLONDON: Tehran is making a "big miscalculation" by refusing to suspend its nuclear enrichment program, Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain said Tuesday, and he urged the international community to take "tough, clear and unified" action by toughening sanctions against Iran.
But the Iranian foreign minister said in Tehran that his country would never again suspend enrichment, which the United States has made a precondition for negotiations. "Suspending uranium enrichment is an illegal and illegitimate demand," Manouchehr Mottaki said, according to the official IRNA news agency. "And it will never happen."
Blair said at his monthly news conference that he believed the comments — and similar remarks Sunday by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran — were "very worrying," adding, "Yet again they're indicating they want to defy the international community."
The British leader refused to speculate on possible military options against Tehran, but said "people want a political and diplomatic solution to this."
"The tougher and clearer and more unified we are, the better results we will get and the less the whole issue of military action arises," Blair said.
