The right knows they have a poor field and if the Dems get someone who excites the liberal base, they're finished for '08. The wingnut base isn't into the top 3 prospective republicans.

If a candidate gets the dem base, then they're pretty much at 50%-all they need is just a marginal number independents and it's in the can.

However, someone like Hillary will do well to get the base out. There's a good chance that a sizeable chunk will stay home or go third party.
The right knows this is their only hope at sucess in '08.

Obama is unproven. As is Edwards.
The only person who's guaranteed to bring the left out in mass is Al Gore.
They're petrified of him.

This latest attack is to remind him of the power of the GOP misinformation machine. They want him to forget the buzz of the Oscar and remember "invented the Internet," Love Canal, Love Story, and all the other crocks of crap they sold the american people in 2000.

The best thing we can do now is let Al know we're behind him and it won't happen again. I think he's serious considering a run. Let's hope this doesn't discourage him.
