John Adams is making me seasick
I remember taking a Polish freighter back in the 70s in wintertime
to Rotterdam where we lost an engine, but this voyage
looks a hell of a lot rougher. We didn't get chased by the English
at the same time.

Great show.

2. This portion covers his trip to France and Holland
to drum up financial support, meanwhile they are being attacked
by the British and .......yikes they just cut off an injured man's leg.

8. You feel that you are looking into a time machine
and witnessing history as it happened. Franklin was
suffering from gout at that time and was quite the
ladies man in Paris from the books that I read.

13. Much of the material in this was taken from letters between John and Abagail
They were prolific letter writers. This production is sumptuous. The PBS Adams Chronicles will forever be left in the dust by this.

17. I think I've loved Giamatti in everything I've seen him in. BTW..that was your town in
wine country? Just beautiful. :)

I live in an area of NY where there was a lot of Revolutionary War activity. The scene with the Dutch had me chuckle. My town was founded by the Dutch. :)

one was a Lt. in the Massachusetts' Militia the other on my father's side
who was in a cannon brigade.

Well, now the Revolutionary war is over which lasted less time

THAN THIS FUCKING WAR!!!!!!!

19. Wow! I haven't known many people whose family went that far back. My great great
grandfather emigrated from Germany and fought in the Civil War...which was over before this (to repeat your words of wisdom) fucking war!

I just saw a thread..over 4000 dead. When will this madness end?

23. "These are the times that try men's souls."
"These are the times that try men's souls.
The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will,
in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country;
but he that stands now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.

Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered;
yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict,
the more glorious the triumph."

Thomas Paine.

12. They took that right from his letters
"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty
to study mathematics and philosophy.

My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy,
geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation,
commerce, and agriculture,

in order to give their children a right to study painting,
poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain."

When Adam's burst in for a point of measure on the treaty,
not realizing Franklin's 'position'.

Franklin sent him to Holland........

21. Good Show.... But how long will it take us to regain our Freedom?
The Revolutionary War will be shorter than the Iraq War, 4000 dead.
Then if we win the election we still have to clean out the Supreme Court
and all the halls of Government from this stench that has infested
our system of government over all these years.
