Omg, I just realized something. |
|
I watched Bowling For Columbine again recently, and that interview Micheal Moore does with James Nichols, the brother of one of the Oklahoma City Bombers, led me to do a little reading on the subject. I came to think: When that guy talks about how the people of the USA were enslaved by the goverment, and how it is a person's duty to overthrow an oppressive goverment, he is acually talking about the Clinton precidency, isn't he??
I mean, that whole thing, as far as I understand, was meant to be a "response" to the Waco incident, and, if I understand correctly, is generally viewed by the radical right as a proper response to a goverment that meddles into peoples business, or am I wrong? They say, the goverment had no right to step onto these peoples property and the fact that the police were fired upon, was "self-defense" in accordance with the second amendment, or am I wrong?
I wonder how Nichols thinks about the Bush administration. Something tells me he probably finds Bush's patriot act as less oppressive than Bill Clinton ever was.

plenty of constitutionalist and militia types in the pac nw and they do NOT like bush.
bush, like clinton, is an authoritarian. they don't like authoritarian.; clinton did it from the left side of the spectrum, but yer average person who is concerned about govt. oppression from the angle these people come from is NO fan of bush.
these people would like a ron paul. but i would be willing to be that nichols brother dislikes bush intensely.

2. From what I've seen, there's a lot of outrage |

about Bush and the Patriot Act. A lot of the people that were upset about Waco think that Sep. 11 was staged by the government in order to get more power to take away our rights. Nichols probably thinks along those lines. In addition, many of these people don't necessarily see a difference between the Repub. and Dem. parties. They think that the parties are two sides of the same coin and don't trust either.

There is more to the picture that would need to be brought in, including the 12 Reagan/Bush years, and the 1st Gulf War.
Why were these RW nuts so convinced Bill Clinton was the devil - he was actually very corporatist. This is the same environment that led the RW nuts to try to impeach. What drove these people? Was it soley Waco and Ruby Ridge? Those were big deals, but that seems to be what released the hate, not what drove it. I don't have answers, only questions.

4. Could be, but not necessarily. |

I've met a few of those nuts who consider the Republicans and the Democrats two heads of the same demon.

5. They're not "nuts", they're just looking at it from a wholly different perspective. |
|
I don't agree with them, but they view almost ALL government intervention as something to be avoided and see the increasing governmental influences (whether Dem or Repub)as very disturbing.
