Al-Sadr stronghold brims with confidence
BAGHDAD - Black banners announcing the deaths of Mahdi Army fighters plaster the streets. Scores of Shiite militiamen gather at the funeral of a fallen comrade as a U.S. helicopter gunship hover menacingly above. The Baghdad district of Sadr City bears the scars of recent fighting, but men loyal to Muqtada al-Sadr are confident they have already won.

1. Elementary, my dear Watson
Bush and his aides knew nothing about the Iraqi people when they planned the invasion with the intent of telling the Iraqi people how they should govern themselves. It should be no surprise to any one, then, that social forces in Iraq did not behave as Mr. Bush and the neocons thought they would. They don't know who the enemy is, and among the Iraqis they have few, if any, real friends.

4. Easily answered: the Bushistas have no idea who their opponents are.
But actually, they do tend to simplify that situation -- through actions that make enemies of EVERYBODY. However, although simplified, it means that whatever they do, they help their opponents.
