EPA defies subpoena to turn over documents.»
EPA defies subpoena to turn over documents.»

In a remarkable show of contempt, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has flatly refused a House Global Warming Committee subpoena. The subpoena for documents relating to the EPA’s refusal to obey the Supreme Court mandate to regulate greenhouse gases was issued by a unanimous, bipartisan vote on April 2, a year after the Supreme Court decision. On April 11, the EPA requested and received an extension to respond, but today the agency has decided not to turn over the documents:

2. In a sane country run by law-abiding people someone would be
getting served with a papers for a hearing to show cause for contempt.

3. Until Congress decides to have Bushco's Executive Branch
goons arrested for violating the constitution, they will continue this display of unbridled arrogance and contempt.

4. I've got a feeling someone, some day, might just get fed up with
this b.s. I know I am; why isn't Conyers, or Pelosi, or the Senate?

5. This is the worst case possible
When other subpoenas have been renounced it has just been a matter between the White House and the Congress. This time Bush is saying fuck you to both the Congress and the Court. What does that leave us? Think about that long and hard, because the only conclusion you can come to is this, for the first time, is an ABSOLUTE power grab. The White House has asserted superiority over BOTH of the other branches of Government and that means there is no - let me repeat that - NO venue for redress.

7. If Congress won't do anything about this, what the hell are they good for?
What's the point of their existence? They're just
going through the motions while the criminals
ignore them and run the country into the ground.

9. You're right, they should draw guns and march to the White House

They issued the subpoena - that is the lawful thing for Congress to do, it was in fact an extreme step when you think about it. The subpoena issued by the Congress would be honored in a lawful country. The Court did its job too, it 'found' in a case and its determination was supposed to be respected. In each case it is the White House that is acting above the law and to the best of my knowledge this is the first instance in which the President has defied both of the other institutions of Government at the same time and on the same matter.

So where does that leave us for the enforcement of laws dutifully passed by the people's representatives and upheld by the highest Court? Do we expect the Park Police to go arrest Bush for this? Do we expect the Military to rise up in the name of the people. Just what recourse do you think is available when the Executive branch goes totally lawless?

18. this is how I feel
I am angry that my candidate didn't make it...but then I think...does it really matter anyway?
Deep down in my darkest of heart fears, I have a feeling that the other shoe will drop before the elections anyway and we won't have them.

12. if dems (nancy pelosi) had held up their end by not letting the WH get away with this
in the past, we wouldn't be in this position now. pelosi emboldened these criminals. this is outrageous.

i hope you're wrong -- i hope there's some sort of redress. but i wouldn't be surprised if there weren't.

Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 09:13 AM by ThomWV
And that boys and girls means dictatorship. Pure and simple, they are above both other branches and accountable to neither of them. That is what this says.
