online eye glasses
:hi:

Someone posted a few weeks ago about buying eye glasses online via zennioptical.com. Being I really needed (and still need I might add ...) new glasses I bought a pair from them.

They are "ok" for what I paid which was less than $40.00.

I called them up yesterday to ask them a question about their company and where were the glasses made. They said they are based in San Rafael, California and the glasses were made "at their factory in China". *eek*

I don't think I'll be getting anymore glasses from them as I truly am not impressed much by the quality but they do serve as a decent enough back up pair in case the ones I have on right now should break in half.

Oh well ...

Should have known it was another Made in China deal regardless of how it was presented online as being in San Rafael, California.

San Rafael, California ... my ass.

1. Glad I got mine from my local optometrist!
I read that discussion and thought about ordering from them. But when I priced glasses at my local place the price was reasonable - with my insurance I got two pair for $75! Without insurance it would have been $200.

3. I have insurance too
They'll pay up to $120 for a pair of bifocals (which is what I really need - I bought single vision from this place only).

There is a local optometrist nearby that takes the insurance I have. Being I have not submitted any claims, I'll likely go there and get the glasses I need.

Just thought I'd let y'all know!

5. Why didn't you just go and get bi-focals to begin with?

6. because I don't really need them that bad (yet)
I've been putting it off. I can still read without glasses but I have pretty bad astigmatism. I was hoping to not get bifocals until I really need them. I'm thinking now I do need them esp. considering the astigmatism thing.

It was an experiment with zennioptical.com. As I mentioned, the glasses I got from them are "ok" but they seem cheap and I doubt they will last very long. Something seems amiss with the RX I must admit.

I may opt to get the bifocal portion filled only with the insurance. The eye doctor rewrote the RX for glasses to be used while on the computer only which is when I really notice the need for new glasses the most.

10. closest one is 300 miles south of where I live
I think I used them before when I used to live south of where I now live.

I cannot remember if it was a good or bad experience which tends to make me think they must have been ok. There aren't any "sit and wait" places where I live (a very rural area).

Thanks for the idea in any event!

4. I always go to one of those "glases while U wait" chain stores
I've always gotten great service there and they've stood behind their products, repairing 5 year old frames for me free of charge.

Sometimes it is advantageous to pay more and get SERVICE. Cheaper isn't always better and there are just some things I won't get online.

8. I bought my last ones at Costco
Sorry to say it, but not impressed. I've had them repaired 4X in 2 years and the Made in China frames are disintegrating.

So, I had to find another place to go. The nearest optometrist is an idiot but I guess that is where I'll have to go to get another real pair of glasses.

I am admittedly short on $$$ right now (and who the hell isn't). So, I decided to give it a try. It was not a total waste but close to it I'd say.

Just thought I'd let people know in case they are considering this option.
