Anyone "covering their tracks" these days? ...
I asked this question a while earlier and it dropped...maybe I was too wordy in the intro

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=226&topic_id=6221&mesg_id=6221

But my point is that in the light of recent news and the turn of events...I feel less likely to trust my government in ANY way.

Even thought we are struggling to survive economically, I want to be on as few govt programs as possible, I have avoided posting my real thoughts, feelings and views here and elsewhere, avoided signing certain things even when I utterly agree, I've held back my comments even in public debate because I don't want to be misconstrued or seen as an anti-patriot...
I feel as though I am practicing a form of political "survivalism" because I don't want to give anyone any reason to come looking for ME when the shit hits the fan. I know that sounds really paranoid :tinfoilhat: and loony...and I don't usually entertain such visions of crazyness!

has anyone else taken to "watching their back" as it were?

1. Nope. Don't think I'VE been holding back. Not my style.
If they make you afraid to speak out they have ALREADY won. Don't give them that victory.

2. Nope, I'm loud, brash & very vocal in my criticisms of this misadministration
.. and I don't give a damn *who* knows it. My family knows that I'd never just 'up & disappear' on my kids (I'm a single father), nor would I ever even entertain the thought of killing myself, so they know if I disappear or 'get suicided' to start making a lot of noise too...

I'm not scared of these bastards one bit. Fuck 'em! You hear that, Georgie, Dickie and the rest of your criminal cabal? Even YOU, Agent Mike. FUCK YOU!... and the jackasses you rode in on...

3. If that's the case, then they've won
because fear is their biggest weapon.

Personally, I prefer civil disobedience. They will never take my rights because I will never give them permission to.

They can steal what I own, they can put my body in jail, but they can't have my rights.

They might as well give up, because I will never be too frightened to speak up. I will never give them that power.

4. Yes.
I know exactly what you are talking about and I have felt foolish and paranoid, but I've had the feeling for quite sometime that I don't want to draw attention to myself. I can't explain it, but there it is.

7. DU is not about holding back
And patriots know that being afraid of tyrants is like giving a gift to the mother-fucking, criminal-shitbag tyrants.

6. What Kestrel said
I DO consider the danger, but I don't let that stop me from expressing my opinion. That's exactly what they want.

For all I know, they have a dossier on me since 1967 or so. Fuck 'em.

9. I've been "watching my back" since I was stabbed nine times in Central America
but I speak out way, way more since.
I'm still peeved, after decades!!

Why wait until someone tries to silence you!!
Speak out now, and maybe you won't be silenced.
Silence yourself, and you are already dead!

10. I understand about not giving in...
BUT I am a single mom, so there's the need to be here for my kids - and I think I wouldn't want to endure anything painful or deadly at the hands of these sick fucks...

I hate what's happening here, and the fear is creeping in very insidiously, but I find that I hesitate in my opinions and decide to avoid programs that could help me because I don't want that huge corporation called the US to have any more info than they already do. Which is probably more than I know, since all banking transactions, emails, etc are already fair game.

( So I guess they will know when I buy a solar panel and build my own back up generator and buy lumber to make a food storage shelter in my basement, etc...eh?)

11. You can't stop them knowing all they want about you
Just the things you do to get by every day gives them information about you, much more than you probably think. Details about your purchases, financial status, interests, who your neighbors are and so forth you wouldn't want any stranger to know. The government is the biggest stranger ever to intrude on our lives and there's no way around it at this point.

Keeping your head down and suffering doesn't reduce your exposure. If there are programs that could help you and your kids, avail yourself of them! Just MHO.

12. I just assume that they know everything
I stopped caring years ago. If calling our government corrupt or saying Bush is a jerk is wrong, I don't want to be right. Just posting here probably puts us all on some list somewhere. so screw it, let it all hang out knowing that if we get timid we may lose the right to speak at all.

13. Um...No
Does the phrase "Good German" mean anything to you?

Your silence will not protect you.

The citizens of Dresden probably thought it best not to make waves and in 1945
they were staggering around wondering what hit them.

If you love your country you will scream your resistance to the fascists at the top of your lungs.

14. SPEAK UP!
It is your right to say what you choose. It is your responsibility as a thinking being to defend freedom.

Shortly after my job was eliminated at a major tabloid publisher, their offices were among the short list of recipients of mail-borne anthrax (remember September 12?). Since I knew that I was a "disgruntled former employee" and therefore probably on a suspect list, I went and had a chat with my lawyer, so that I might be prepared should ATF or the Feds came knocking (or just busting in the door at 3 am). He was able to find out that this publisher (sorry for being cagey but I cannot mention its name) has more staffers in its legal department than it does in all of its editorial offices, and that they have records of THOUSANDS of possible suspects, among both readership and former staff. Ultimately, I decided not to worry: once the Feds got wind of my high-school chemistry scores, they knew it wasn't me!

More recently, I discovered how one can submit a name and, under the Freedom of Information Act, find out if that name appears in any FBI, ATF, etc. documents. A few weeks later I received a letter telling me that my name was not on any list. I showed it to my gal and said, "Look sweetie! I'm not on any lists!" to which she responded, "Oh, you are now!"

17. Must be terrible to live your life on your knees.

I want them to *try* and put me on the first train to the gulag.

The quicker they kill me in the cause, the faster I don't have to put up with their shit.

20. You are ALL so right... i guess i have just been feeling SO beaten
by everything that seems to be snowballing lately... my own struggles included.

and I definbatekly agree, I'd rather get shot right off the bat then have to deal with the next phase of their shit.

guess it is just a depressing day for me, they keep winning it seems...and i don't want to be rolled over by the tanks. maybe it is just that victim survival personality trait showing through.

and yes, I agree that keeping quiet to some expent won't change things. I would much rather resist...still unsure of how to do it when struggling for survival.
maybe sometimes just being a poor person and continuing to be educated and having breath in my lungs to yell "freedom!" is the biggest defiance to those bastards!

thanks, their fear tactics almost had me there for a minute!

21. Take heed of Tony Benn's words
when he was interviewed for Sicko.

"I think there are two ways in which people are controlled; first of all, frighten people and secondly demoralize them. An educated, healthy and confident nation is harder to govern."
