McCain, Military Oppose Expanding GI Bill
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 06:57 PM by OneAngryDemocrat
Source: ABCNews

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, seemed to give a thumbs down to bipartisan legislation that would greatly expand educational benefits for members of the military returning from Iraq and Afghanistan under the GI Bill.

McCain indicated he would offer some sort of alternative to the legislation to address concerns that expanding the GI Bill could lead more members of the military to get out of the service.

Officials in charge of Pentagon personnel worry that a more generous and expansive GI Bill would create an incentive for troops to get out of the military and go to college.

The reason for McCain's refusal to support the bill?

"Officials in charge of Pentagon personnel worry that a more generous and expansive GI Bill would create an incentive for troops to get out of the military and go to college."

Truth-seekers... read the last sentence, AGAIN.

In fact, read it 3x.

Let it swish around your skull for a few minutes, and then you'll know what to say the next time a Republican wants to look down their nose at you.

"Fuck John McCain."

1. Yeah, we don't need a country of intelligent people, just warriors
Who needs colleges and universities, after all? Who needs intellectuals?
We of the ruling class can handle things just fine by ourselves -- we don't
need to expand opportunities to the riffraff. Just keep 'em dumb and scared
and they'll have no choice but go to and fight and die for us.

BITTER :sarcasm:

HAVE I SAID LATELY HOW MUCH I HATE THESE PEOPLE?

3. Just keep the money flowing to the corporations that make arms,
don't you dare spend it on real people for real benefits to our country.

4. "incentive for troops to get out"
Isn't that why they had to put "stop lost" into effect?
Jesus Christ.... they want out because the leadership is fucked up, the army is broke and they don't want to die..

Throw the recruiters out of town, and only allow them to recruit from the many nut-case right-wing mega-churches that criss-cross the country. Let the swine, by themselves, wallow in the filth that they have made.

Just what would we lose?

Bringing this up in the media, or in a future debate wouldn't be questioning his patriotism, or his record as a former serviceman.

It would be questioning his current committment to our men & women in uniform.

LET IT ROLL!!!
