Is mcSame a sacrificial lamb? |
|
The Republicans must realize that they're not going to win anything this year. mcSame is an old, washed-up buffoon with a number of screws loose. Did they give him the nod to avoid "using up" one of their other stout yeomen on a lost cause?

6. Of course, he's the "maverick". |
|
Once he loses they can say he wasn't a "real conservative" and that's why he lost. It wasn't the dismal failure of the "real conservatives" in power for the last 7 years that cost him the election. It was his "maverick" un-conservative attitude that cost him the election.

do so at our peril.
We must keep in mind, rank and file voters are not and do not think as Activists.

9. No and we would be silly to consider that the public at large perceivces him as you do |
|
He actually is the strongest candidate they have. He has been THE media favorite for decades. His war story was made into a movie that was repeated on tv more than once. (hypocritical given his criticism of Kerry - though had "Going Up River" it might have countered a lot of the SBVT's REAL problem by putting Kerry's antiwar actions into context.) The advantage of that is that now in commercials, he puts in a little snippet on Vietnam and it brings back the made for tv movie.
Also, he CAN come across as sincere, respectful and serious - when he controls his temper. It may not be complete truth, but it can sound like it. Other than a joint appearance with Kerry on Iraq in September 2007, he has usually come out well in head to head talk show appearances.

10. I see your point, but... |

I simply cannot accept that this man is a "strong" candidate.
Of course, I also "knew" bush would lose to Gore in 2000. Oh that's right, he did.

11. Yes, he's like Bob Dole in 1996 |
|
Bill Clinton was too popular to beat, so instead of "wasting" a Bush on that election, the GOP ran Dole...
This pattern says it all: 1976—Ford/Dole 1980—Reagan/Bush 1984—Reagan/Bush 1988—Bush/Quayle 1992—Bush/Quayle 1996—Dole/Kemp 2000—Bush/Cheney 2004—Bush/Cheney

the rethug convention, a "white knight" in the person of Newt Gingrich, will appear and be nominated by acclamation at their convention.

Repubs have not yet begun to fight. They won't just give up an eight-year slot in the white house. They can win.
We can't just sit back and assume the victory.
We certainly have some advantages, with Repubs not able to work to a budget, won't address health care, can't educate kids. They've screwed up the basics big-time. But they're not dead.
"Stout yeomen"? They have stout yeomen? They got McCain. And Gingrich.

14. Repubs don't want to win... |
|
the White House in 2008.
As long as we're speculating, why not?
Whoever ends up with this giant bag of shit - and tries to do something about it - will have to make some tough choices for the US. Foreign and domestic choices.
The Repubs like to throw brickbats, and right now they themselves are the only logical targets.
With a Dem in the White House, the Repubs can scream about how the Murikan people are getting screwed, how the Dems "lost" Iraq, how the terra-ists are coming to kill Murikan women and rape Murikan cattle..... etc.... The opportunities for bloviation will be countless.
Who does Rush want for President? My guess would be that he wants the Dem that would be the easiest target for after the election.
Obama the Muslim. Hilary the shrew. Whichever, Rush wins... along with the Repubs. Obama or Clinton will be writing the script for Rush's program every day. That fat fuck will be able to phone it in!
All this, when the new president is gonna need all the resources, all the intelligence, and all the luck in the world to bring the US... and maybe the world... out of the mess that it is after Dumbya.
Shit!

Clearly some people in the republican party decided not to run because they felt it was a tough year to win as a republican. However McCain feels he can win. He has a plan to win the election and the party has clearly circled around him.

And he'd never win a general election. Frankly, I can't see him giving up his CJ seat to lose in the general.
