ABC' World News Ratings Fall Drastically from Week to Week
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 11:05 AM by hnmnf
For the week of April 7-11, ABC news was first in viewers with 8,030,000 viewers and 2.52 million viewers in the 25-54 demo. NBC was second with 7.92 million viewers and 2.36 million viewers in the demo.

But for the week of April 14-18, which includes two post debate days, ABC lost over 500,000 viewers and 300,000 viewers in the demo, while NBC gained 250,000 viewers and 30,000 in the demo. We will have to wait and see if this is a trend as a result of the Debate. I havent seen ABC's ratings this low in quite a while.

8. I'm usually about 5 years ahead of the curve
in a lot of things. 5 years ago, I fell into poverty. 4 years ago, I shut the evening news off for the last time.

I'm delighted to say I'm out of poverty, although given a choice I'd rather be poor and have my dad with me. However, my TV is still tuned to anything but the "news." I just had my fill of being talked down to and lied to by a bunch of multimillionaire, blow dried, empty bobbleheads paid to lie for an oligarchy.

Oh, curiosity got the better of me a year ago and I tuned into CBS Snooze for 5 minutes with the sound off, just to see Couric prancing around that silly set and pretending to do something besides AM fluff. The spectacle was too much and I flipped the channel after 3 minutes. Yeah, I'm a coward and having my disgust-o-meter pinned is a painful experience.

I think that Hannity driven "debate" was a serious wake up call for a whole lot of people who'd had that TV blatting propaganda during the dinner hour out of sheer habit. I know that's the only reason mine was turned to network news for years. It looks like they're turning the damned thing off while they have a peaceful dinner or they're doing what I did, tuning in to Simpsons reruns to get a better idea of what's really going on in this country.

Realizing that we're being patronized and lied to is the first step. Tuning it all out is the second. Doing something about it will be the third.

9. Reading things like this always cheers me up.
I have these fantasies of the stockholders calling Gibson and Stephanopolos in front of them and berating them for being so overtly RW that they're losing money. I know it's just a fantasy, but the visual of seeing in my mind's eye the two of them squirm like the worms they are just gives me the happy tingles!

11. PRAVDA USA
Maybe people are catching on. Soviet citizens were quicker than us because the police state was so obvious, they quickly learned how to look for the real news and read between the lines. Who needs communists when we have Republicans.

18. Unfortunately, ratings and profits for stations aren't the only reason media companies are owned
by huge parent corporations...they are there for profits of the PARENT corporations. Sometimes that means distorting news and public opinion in favor of issues and officials that benefit the parent company...whether it be energy, defense, or bigger media. Individual stations are propaganda tools for bigger fish.

They need to keep ratings up in order to remain effective as a propaganda tool, but they don't need to maximize profits and ratings. They just need to be available to help swiftboat this candidate or softball this other one.
