Despite all the bad news lately, I'm still optimistic. (short story) |

I'm beginning to wonder why but I still have hope. I should be depressed I guess. Things aren't going that great in my life right now but some things are looking better. Like I'll be able to see a doctor now and I'll be able to have my dental work taken care of and get an eye exam. But today I gave in and went to the local food pantry. I haven't been there in so long that I wasn't on their list anymore and had to fill out new paperwork but I'm low on funds and food. I filled out a short form but while I was there, one of the volunteers (older than me) was talking about how bad the economy is and the other woman (younger) and myself said that bush needed to go asap and that we need to get Dems in the WH and take back the Senate if we want to see any change and the older woman said "No, I don't think so" and then the other woman and myself "jumped her"! :P Not really but we both started naming reasons why the GOP must be taken out of power and while the 'little old lady' was looking at me, the other woman was behind her and smiled and gave me the thumbs up when I was talking about all the money being spent on Iraq as part of the problem and then the older woman started agreeing with us and talking about all the loans the US has taken from China and how terrible it is! :P It was kind of funny! She turned on a dime! Then, as I was leaving an old friend of mine, who used to live in this town, came in. He's a plumber but had an aneurysm a few years ago and it seems he's having trouble keeping a job. He never fully recovered from brain surgery and I was surprised to see him there, as he always had a bank roll in his pocket. :( At any rate, the shelves were bare, I kid you not. Donations are waaaaayyy down but they had banana's and some meat and frozen juice and a lot of spaghettio's, some bread and tuna! It will help. This next month is going to be a tough one.

But maybe you convinced one republican today!! could a volunteer at a food bank really be backing GWB? it boggles my mind. and I have to say, one thing I feel guilty about is each time I donate to my candidate (when I have some extra bucks) I feel bad knowing the $$$ should go to local charities here. it's hard to balance. a change in gov't is so important, I'm putting all I can into it...but seeing things crumble around me.
thanks for the short story.

2. I hope we changed her mind and yes.... |

the little old church lady is probably a republican but maybe, just maybe, she is more enlightened now! I'll be fine but I was sick of eating PB&J sandwiches and pasta and rice. Blah! Now I can have a hamburger! ;)
The real issue is I got my new car insurance estimate and although lower than ever this year (down $170.00!!) :woohoo: the initial payment is due the 1st week in May. That's going to kill any extra money I may have had, not to mention my regular bills.

3. yep, it's a tightrope. |

I have to pay for summer childcare, first month's payment due next week--while I'm paying for after-school care (2 boys). I am self-employed -- freelance graphic design, so I pay for insurance for the 3 of us. without summer child care, I can't work, but I can barely afford the large payment next week.
but yay for hamburgers!
and good luck!

I've been through those days and I know how hard it is to juggle all that alone with two kids. (I have 3 boys... men now.) I wouldn't want to be in that position today, at all.
Here's to better days! :toast: (I have coffee.) ;)
