Soldiers Say Porn Ban May Hurt Morale
Legislation that would restrict the sale of certain men's magazines on U.S. military bases around the world would be bad for morale, according to soldiers at Grafenwöhr.

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., has introduced legislation that would close a loophole in the current law that allows the sale of some sexually explicit material on military bases by lowering the threshold required to deem material "sexually explicit."

A Department of Defense committee that reviews materials sold on bases ruled last year that magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse are not pornographic. But Broun's Military Honor and Decency Act includes language that could make those magazines eligible for the ban.

The prospect of missing out on men's magazines was not welcomed by soldiers at Grafenwöhr.

"We all read 'em," said Pfc. Paul Rubio, 31, of Bakersfield, Calif. "There are times we just read 'em for the technological parts like the new gadgets that come out. They have good stories sometimes too."

3. And we won't let you have a beer, either.
We'll let you go on food stamps by not paying you enough, and actually cutting your combat pay while you get shot at and bombed by people you can't tell who are an enemy and who aren't, but don't you dare look at porn or drink a beer, because, gee, we're a moral country and boobies and beer are just wrong, especially while you're killing people and blowing up their houses and children.

7. Half the military in Iraq don't even come under the jurisdiction of
the UCMJ. The high dollar "CONTRACTOR"/soldier(those "Elite BushCo Troops")can commit rape murder mayhem or torture and then read any and all the books that he can buy with his mega-military income.

That old "brown shoe" OD Green Weenie is still alive and well today I see...They should send the guy who wants to steal these books from these troopers who buy them with their own hard earned and almost worthless Dollars, to Grafenwöhr for life without mercy. That freezing shit-hole(Grafenwöhr)sucks worse than the GOP. That place hasn't changed since the Nazis ran it and now the bush-stepping book burners are back to take it over again, it sounds like.

RHIP...it's okay for Dave Vitter to sin though...

6. There isn't much consistency in their line of thinking
Re our culture though, many have noted such inconsistency in how depictions of a knife entering a body warrants and "R" rating, while depictions of a penis entering a body is relegated to the nefarious X files. Damn puritans and authoritarians. Incidentally, has anyone seen the brilliant doc film This Film Has Not Been Rated, about the fascist MPAA? Highly recommended!

10. It might seem funny but, at least long ago, Playboy had some of the best
investigative journalism around. And, believe it or not, there are lots of interviews, reviews of electronics, etc.

And, yes, there are airbrushed photos of beautiful women displaying their naughty bits.

12. K&R
They "support the troops"

They let the pill happy Viagra crazed Rush Lamebrain broadcast his trash to the troops 24/7 on our dime, but they don't want the troops to get any truthful political input from the likes of a Larry Flynt.

14. The Porn lobby will fight this
Millions of dollars goes through the industry, they've got influence. Throw the ACLU in the mix and this won't happen.
