Whatever happened to those color-coded TERRA alert warnings? ..... |
|
..... Or do they only turn up during elections, kinda like bin Laden tapes?

13. they don't mean "nothing," they mean a great deal of inconvenience |
|
i guess if you don't travel, orange alert means "nothing," but if you do travel, an amazing amount of time is wasted in getting all of your liquids and creams into a tiny ziplock bag, and you still can't even bring your own can of soda thru security
considering that many airlines now will not even allow you your own full can of soda on a 2 hour flight in one of the most drying environments on earth -- 32,000 feet into the upper atmosphere -- then this is not "nothing," it's a pretty big nuisance and cause of misery
i've arrived at my destination with skin flakes coming off my face and i doubt i'm the only one
i've seen people get simple bottles of water taken away at security and told to drink the dirty tap water from the water fountains of jefferson parish at the "new orleans" airport (which is really in jefferson parish, not orleans)
downshifting the alert to "yellow" and removing some of the more ridiculous "orange" precuations would mean a significant improvement in quality of life for air travelers if you ask me
i'm assuming you object, as i do, to paying $3 for a bottle of water past security that would cost me 25cents brought from the grocery store

7. I know--the cnn crawl used to include the alert level, now even they don't bother to pretend |
|
that there is any meaning to it.
I loved it a few years ago, alert level high orange (whatever the hell THAT means) and we were encouraged to go shopping (so we could be more centralized targets at the malls, perhaps?)

Which means that they open your bags and pretend to look in at major venues like museums, theaters and ball-parks. It is a joke really.
When we were in Seattle a few years ago, we went to the "Experience Music" project and the family was a band- we had to pick a name, so we picked "Orange Alert"
