12. "....because of gas, gets passed on to us."

Let me firmly and positively state that in no way do I want, need, or otherwise desire a trucker passing gas onto me.

2. $2.50 - $3 here.
It's 2.50 for the regular stuff, and 2/$3 for a pint of grape or cherry tomatoes. $2.79 for Roma.

My tomatoes out back cannot grow quick enough :(

6. I've already got them.
Romas, cherry and better boy. Cherry tomatoes should be ripe in the next couple days, romas in a week or 2, better boys just starting.

I also did my first basil harvest today. Made 2 quarts of pesto. Beans are coming along, carrots and beets are going great guns. Between what I'm growing and the local farmer's markets, it's going to be a full freezer this year.

14. So jealous. Here in the Chicago Area...
we're just getting ours in the ground. We did starters in the basement, so my plants are around 12+" tall, but there is little to them - pretty sticky looking right now. We won't start seeing fruit until sometime in July, I'm sure. Same thing with the beans, peas & peppers, but lettuce should be ready sometime next month.

I do have fresh herbs already though - which is nice :)

Peppers is another thing that freaks me out. $3.50/lb on sale for red, orange & yellow. Green are now never cheaper than $2.50/lb.

15. Green peppers in the store here are $1.00 ea
and not even big enough for stuffed peppers. However, I tried some last year and they flopped badly. My hot peppers were great, but the bells were just plain sad.

5. Sounds like Alaska. You needed a down payment -----
that was years ago but any thing that came in by air was really costly.

7. I hate store-bought tomatoes.
They don't even taste tomato-ey. I wouldn't pay a nickel for one. I'll just wait until my garden produces "real" tomatoes.

18. Tomatoes $2.50 a lb.? Where did you find them so cheap?
Where I live the tasteless ones are $2.99 and the good ones are $3.49. Next week I'm planting tomato plants . . . lots of them.

21. 3.00-3.50 here, just north of you east of Nashville, and not worth a crap either
In the store I just look the other way.

Oughta grow some, but last year the sturdiest prettiest tomato starts i ever set out
got some kind of wilt just before bearing, broke my gardening heart.

There'll be plenty to buy at the farmer's market here soon.
