Nation-wide roadblocks coming in June
A trip down fascist lane..A national road check all for looking in your car, checking if anything amiss, looking in your stuff ,digging around your shit in 37 different ways ,all in the name of safety..Fuck.

'FROM JUNE 3, 2008, ABOUT 10,000 TRAINED AND CERTIFIED
OFFICERS WILL BLANKET THE ROADWAYS OF NORTH AMERICA TO
PREVENT TRUCK AND BUS ACCIDENTS AND SAVE LIVES. KNOWN AS
ROAD CHECK 2008, FEDERAL, STATE, PROVINCIAL, AND LOCAL
OFFICERS WILL BE CONDUCTING NORTH AMERICAN STANDARD
INSPECTION AROUND THE CLOCK FOR 72 HOURS FROM JUNE 3-5. THE
INSPECTIONS INVOLVE A COMPREHENSIVE 37-STEP PROCEDURE WHICH
INCLUDES ITEMS RELATED TO VEHICLE, DRIVER, AND CARGO
SAFETY.'

What makes dumbass people think digging through someones luggage ,book bags or whatever at a checkpoint makes anything safer??

4. While they may have a constitutional right to stop and ask for ID,
they do not have any constitutional right to search your person, your vehicle, or its compartments unless they are arresting you. They may ask for your consent which you may give or withhold.

8. wasn't there just a court decision that basically said the police could search or do anything
they wanted, even without any actual reason to stop the vehicle?

the rat packs (excuse me, the safety zones) that operate here on holidays, can do just about anything they like. they don't need probable cause.

12. Searches can be made incidental to arrest so long as there is probable cause to make such an arrest.

5. CVSA - Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.
It sounds like this is just for commercial vehicles. I think they are already subject to certain inspections. Are they talking about all vehicles, or just commercial vehicles?

7. from "Tarkio Road" by Brewer & Shipley
Movin' on down the Tarkio Road
Headed up to Crete Nebraska
Trying my best to set the highway on fire
But my bicycle won't go no faster
Tarkio Road is a mother
It's just like oh so many other
Where the children reject you
And the police suspect you
Looking inside the trunk under the hood hopin' to find
The secret places where you always keep your mind
Woah woah no Tarkio Road

Abby and rube been lying in jail
Learning 'bout the price of being free
Trying to live the constituional life
But being held back by hypocrisy
Carry the load my brother
Your just like oh so many other
Who the children reject it
And the police suspect it
Your tied to the chair manacled and bound and gagged
Is that your face on the American flag
Woah woah no carry the load

I'm singing Tarkio Tarkio Road
Tarkio Tarkio Road
Tarkio Tarkio Road
Tarkio Tarkio Road
If your looking for some trouble
You can find it on the Tarkio Road

24 hours of barbed wire fence
55 years of pollution
Everyone knows how the puzzle was laid
But can anyone recall the solution
Tarkio Road is a mother
It's just like oh so many other
Where the people infect you
But they never elect you
No reason or cause that you may have perfectly sound
The blind look is gonna try and cut it down
Woah woah no Tarkio Road

10. This is targeted at Commercial Trucks and Busses, NOT PASSENGER CARS.
Read the article, folks.

It's a Truck safety inspection push. It's happened many times before.

and it has been going on for many years now. They don't look into your trucks and buses.....just a safety check....lights, brakes, overweight.

22. 10,000 trained and certified inspectors?
Who trained all these people?

Who certified them?

And most importantly, when their "program" fails to prevent accidents (like it claims it's designed to) how quickly will it be shut down?

Roadcheck 2007 Results Show Safety Improvements Are Needed
June 29, 2007

From June 5-7, 7,708 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Certified Inspectors at 1,449 locations across North America performed 62,370 truck and bus inspections – the highest number of inspections ever conducted in the 20 years of the International Roadcheck event. Equally as impressive was a record number of the most comprehensive roadside inspections conducted, the North American Standard Level I – 49,454 of the total.

Driver results for the vehicle types were as follows:

All vehicles: 93.8 percent of drivers passed the inspection, and 6.2 percent were placed out of service (5.6 percent were out of service in 2006).
HAZMAT: 96.5 percent of drivers passed the inspection, and 3.5 percent were placed out of service (3.0 percent were out of service in 2006).
Motorcoaches: 96.2 percent of drivers passed the inspection, and 3.8 percent were placed out of service (2.9 percent were out of service in 2006).

Vehicle results were as follows:
All vehicles: 78.5 percent of vehicles passed the inspection, and 21.5 percent were placed out of service (21.7 percent were out of service in 2006).
HAZMAT: 82.3 percent of vehicles passed the inspection, and 17.7 percent were placed out of service (18.2 percent were out of service in 2006).

I don't know about you, but I'd like to be sure that every trucker's brakes and other mechanical systems are working and if not them get them the hell off the road.

26. Absolutely...
Not only is this organization helping with that, but also DOT as well. Big trucks like this have to be safe or they get shut down on the spot.
