Biden: Bush's comments were 'bullshit'

Sen. Joe Biden, piling on to Democratic complaints about President Bush’s speech in Israel today:

“This is bullshit, this is malarkey. This is outrageous, for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, to sit in the Knesset . . . and make this kind of ridiculous statement.”

Speaking before the Knesset, Bush said that “some people” believe the United States “should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along."

"We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said. "As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is—the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

Democrats have interpreted the comments as an attack on Sen. Barack Obama, and Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that the president was out of line.

1. The President (and I use that term begrudgingly) has been out of line...
for 7 1/2 years now. Nothing he says or does surprises me.

It was a practice mugging to work out the bugs before mugging President Albert Gore in 2000!

3. Prescott? Who said anything about Prescott?
The best way for a Nazi to avoid being called a Nazi is to call the other guy a Nazi first.

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

the Jewish vote, in very specific regions of the country

Dade county anyone? I mean in 2000 Buchanan "got" that vote... so they think this time they can
scare them to vote against the democrat and get them fair and square

I expect more of this crap

The demographics are changing. Younger Jewish-Americans care about stuff other than hard-line Israeli policy.

I strongly agree with Obama's position of talking to our enemies rather than ignoring them like Bush is. I'm against doing nothing. There's nothing brave or effective about doing nothing.

If Bush feels this sort of thing is acceptable, then his family's record with the Nazis should be out there in the mainstream media as well.

44. The Bush quote
of Sen. Borah(R) of Idaho, a mixed bag progressive outlier way back then is unmistakably a repeat of a GOP talking point that has been used before, regardless of the fact that it was from a GOP isolationist and bring sup a lot of historical questions about the judgment of any Republican at any time with any particular persuasion. There were also actual GOP Nazi sympathizers as well who were dismayed that Hitler put egg on their faces, but none of that kept the people with closest money ties from severing their dirty connections(Prescott Bush) with the invaders even after Pearl harbor. So after parsing history and all the various shades of "appeasement" isolationism, and pro-Nazi embarrassment what does that have to do with democrats who fought the wars and are ready to do the same again as actually necessary? Bush cannot even prove that elements in the democratic party have turned completely against imperialism even to the qualified extent of the histrionic Sen. Borah.

Chamberlain is Tony Blair's anti-precedent. In fact talk indeed has nothing to do with it. The invasion of Iraq, even shamefully enlisting free Poland, to the cause was bought by oil. ANY other action on behalf of Israel not involving oil is lackadaisical, hype and smoke. Nor will they survive by depending on Bush's pre-emptive involvement in making unjust war and refusing sane diplomacy with the chief focus being personal politics and personal profit.

If Bush could have talked to Hitler he would have told him to threaten Poland and Austria then invade the European oil fields and the Middle East. Secretly, of course.
