Time is on our side on the gay marriage issue |
|
This issue is generational. Young people, even many young conservatives I know, have no objection to gay marriage. Older folks, including many Democrats, are the ones who get all worked up over gays marrying.
As time goes by and more older folks, er, uh, leave us (yeah, that's it), the political climate will move in a direction that favors proponents of equal marriage rights.

1. Don't be so sure about old people |
|
I live in an area with a lot of old people -- and a lot of gay people.
The reaction I get from many many older people is -- "You can't get married? That is so stupid."
The ones who are most rabidly against it are the right wingers, Christians, and mainly the middle aged ones.

2. It's true, I don't know many young people that are homophobic |
|
And, I don't know many young people that are racist either, but by the looks of the hate crimes committed in the US they evidently both exist.
It would be nice to see some stats to know for sure.

3. Some of us old crocks are with you, too |
|
and more of us old crocks will join as the sky stubbornly refuses to fall in Massachusetts, Vermont, and the other states that allow gays and lesbians access to the body of civil law governing marriage.
That's why time is on your side, it's what proves that all the hysteria from the churches is a big fat lie and that extending the privileges and duties of marriage to all who desire them will not cause a breakdown in society any more than interracial marriage did.
Time and events are the only things that will change conservatives who desire freedom from the inconvenience of change above all, even the inconvenience inherent in changing a stupid opinion about something that has no chance of ever affecting their own lives.

4. I agree. I think it was 2003 or 4 that Teresa Heinz Kerry said that it will happen |

and pretty much explained it the same way you just did, iirc, seeing it as a certainty.
