Dog whistle signal has gone out: Conyers promises to kick Rove's ass. War funding |
|
stopped in the house. Gay marriage in CA. Press, including Matthews, jumping on Bush and GOP for Knesset comments. Mississippi election shocker. Biden going ballistic. Begala, Reid, Pelosi have HARSH words for Bush (Begala says he's ashamed Bush is our pres). Gates says he wants MORE contact with Iran. DLCr Rahm Emanuel asks if Bush has no shame.
This stuff wasn't happening a couple of weeks ago.
I'd like to know why it wasn't happening before now, but I'll take it!

They are scared shitless and are going to go all fear. The Dems have to fight hard, because the goppers are cornered and know the country is against them.

5. I'm happy that this is happening. But this should have started long ago |
|
It was being said here at DU from the beginning. I was getting hell from people in my part of the country by my pronouncements of this "failure" of a man and claiming that it would be wrong going to war with Iraq. And trust me, if you say those type of things where I live, you get people pretty pissed.
Point is, if we could figure this out, why couldn't the pundits and politicos? A question that will always befuddle me.

14. For me too. Underneath the good news is the question about why |
|
dems couldn't have pursued inherent contempt sooner...why war funding was rubber stamped...why even criticism of the WH was always tempered and not commensurate with the crimes.
We can save that for another day, maybe, and be pleased with the way the week has gone!

17. I'm not quite as critical because I believe leadership tied his hands. But I do remember |
|
thinking that all these basement hearings were just relieving pressure for change, not creating change. I also remember petitions for election fraud legislation that he hand-delivered to the WH. After that, even when dems were in power, no action.
There's an important question and answer in all of this that hopefully one day will be part of public discourse.

31. Rude P offers a possible answer |
|
"One of the greatest goods an Obama administration could do would be to lead us back to a place where we can feel again, where we can rightly and righteously be angered into action."
I don't think it's that simple, but the rest of his article makes a lot of sense.
Don't let the above quote fool you. The usual RP warning label is necessary: Do not read RudePundit if you are averse to disturbing, vivid images of bodily secretions, carnage, and animal sex.

and today, I listened to Rush and Hannity talking about how conservatives need to get back to their low taxes, low spending roots and they will win in November, and I just laugh in disbelief. The country has so rejected the conservative "I got mine, screw you," values.

38. The problem is, that's impossible |
|
Yeah, they COULD win in November if they went back to their low-spending roots. Limbaugh and Hannity's problem is that, ever since Reagan took over, the GOP has become better at throwing money around than the Democrats ever were. Plus, the GOP buys expensive things. A Democrat might want to spend money on housing and poverty relief, but the GOP likes to buy submarines. And as any good Democrat well knows, you can buy housing for a LOT of people for the price of one submarine.

36. The Beltway Moves At A Snail's Pace |
|
The Democratic party has come a long way since that dark night in November '04...we'd lost more House & Senate seats and the corporate media was salivating at what they was sure was the ultimate demise of the Democratic party...and we weren't too far. It's been a long, hard road back, but I submit that not only look at where we are now, but where we've come and where we need to go.
The best I was hoping for the '06 elections was a means to slow down this out of control regime...imagine all the shit that was still on Junior's burner if he had a rubber stamp congress...like privitizing SSI and even more draconian rules. There'd be ZERO oversight...Conyers would be lucky to hold meetings in the Capitol basement (remember those days???). No, things haven't been ideal, but at least Democrats were able to wrestle some power and get back into the game...setting things up for this election.
This regime had taken the Unitary Executive into hyperdrive...consolidating incredible powers in the Executive and turning the Legislative into a bunch of empty suits...to expect it to flip 180 wasn't in the cards as DeLay and Hastert had given 51 of those cards to Rove, Chenney and the other crooks in this regime. Pelosi and Reid have had to play shorthanded all the way and with a "partner" that won't hestitate to cheat or change the rules of the game.
After 12 years out of power, Democrats have had a learning curve at work here...they weren't prepared to deal with this regime at first but have gotten smarter as time goes by. They've run into obstructionists who openly vote against the interests of their constituents and have enabled this regime to continue its corruption...even while their own political fates began to suffer. If there's anything amazing here, it's how loyal these lemmings have been no matter how destructive or unpopular this regime becomes.
We're definitely not out of the woods here...and have a long way to go, but it's been our hard work and energy that helped change the dynamic in the country...the beltway is just starting to feel it...we need to send a big message this November that could really open up the flood gates.
Cheers...

|
For those of you lamenting the years 2001-2007 and the tepid response of the Democrats to the most criminal government in our nation's history, now you get to see the payoff.
Personally, I wouldn't have advocated this course, but that's the way it broke and now we'll see if the fusillade hits its target (audience).
It's going to be a busy couple of months as the litany of scandals are updated with new revelations. Not many of us here are going to be surprised by anything new, but many people who just woke up to what's been going on will be.
