NBC: "Olbermann's ratings are getting bigger and bigger and getting closer and closer to O'Reilly."

<snip>

Olbermann's preview on Daily Kos may have contributed to the strong ratings last night for Countdown. The program tied The O'Reilly Factor for first place at 8pmET in the A25-54 demo. SVP of NBC News Phil Griffin tells TVNewser, "The trend is up. Olbermann's ratings are getting bigger and bigger and getting closer and closer to O'Reilly."

9. He lost me for a while but occasionally I check back in to see if he is still bashing Clinton.
 When he isn't bashing another Democrat he seems to do okay..

2. Well I Saw DU Shown On CNN Yesterday
It was a brief screen shot but the DU logo was very much in display. Bravo!!! :applause:

I think it's great KO puts up a post and preview on DKos...he also replies to a few of the comments. There's a definite mood shift going on in this country and he's one of the few outlets people can turn to for the "real news" other than Stewart or Colbert. The fun is seeing how the stronger Olbermann gets the more it affects the rest of the network. IMHO, it's why Abrams is going after Rove and now why Tweety has had to watch his inner demons...he can't just throw up a panel of wingnuts and not get called on it.

The netroots have become a "Sixth Estate" out here...the gatekeepers on the gatekeepers...and, in many ways actually starting to crash the gates.

The fun is to watch how O'Reilly now fumes about DKos and Markos in the same league as Soros and MoveOn...he's created the Orange Evil Empire.

6. All we need are the blogs and newscasters like KO on our side...
and it's full steam ahead.

I have to admit that I'm shocked that O'Reilly has greater viewership than Keith? That is incredible. O'Reilly makes my skin crawl. Yuck!

8. O'Reilly has better ratings for one reason.

Half the TVs in this country that are in hospitals, banks, etc. are tuned to Fox News.

MSNBC can't be on 24x7 because they intermix Keith with shows about Charles Manson, and prison riots. So, Keith is watched by real people. O'Reilly is on televisions that are just left on 24x7.

11. I assume that ...

I assume that The First Bank of Lincoln is not a Nielson family. O'Reilly is #1 on cable because he panders to stupid people.

12. My point is that stupid people choose to watch him
But that every lobby I pass has Fox News on. MSNBC can't be on because of the violent or gossipy crap that is on half the time. It's not a news channel.

Fox News pretends to be news. MSNBC only provides news for half the day.

I have only seen one lobby with CNN. But banks, hospitals, and such are always on Fox.

14. Availability
One thing Faux has done has worked with the cable systems to ensure they got on as many as possible. They even sued New York to get on that system..and it didn't take much for them to get on. It also helps that Faux is packaged with movie channels and other goodies that cable operators want...and to get FX or Fox Movies, you have to take Faux Noise as well. MSNBC/GE has never been as aggressive and thus are on far fewer systems...thus their ratings have always been the worst of the cable news channels and more the reason that Olbermann's success if of note. It also doesn't hurt that Murdoch owns Direct TV now.

15. You're definitely right about MSNBC
It's always been the "red headed stepchild." The best NBC ever did for MSNBC was letting Olbermann do a bit before a few football games last season.

If they cleaned that channel up, it really could be something. As much as some people think that Keith's changed, I think they're in for a rude awakening if a Democrat takes office, since I have no doubt that he'll nail them too when they screw up.

We know that Fox let anything the Republicans did go without any reporting, and if a Democrat showed up with their shoes untied, they were unfit for office. If a Democrat takes office, Fox will savage them for no good reason. Keith will savage them when they lie.

It will be interesting to see.

16. The "Blogger Babes"
They were trolling for responses to his assholiness' sliming of Obama on the net...I caught the DU logo for a good 2 seconds (wonder how much that ads up to ad time???) and a quick scan down what appeared to be the GD-Pit (where else would they go??).

DU has a lot of eyes...it's a great quick resource to catch both the yin and yang of the progressive blogosphere as well as getting a heads up on a lot of stories on other sites.

4. That's not surprising -- I'm sure a lot of people appreciate
the fact that he says so forcefully and publicly the things that they've been thinking. I expect his popularity to keep increasing.

10. The corporate masters over at m$nbc need to do some house cleaning.
Get rid of Joe 'dead intern' Scarborough and Pat 'KKK' Buchanan to make room for more Rachel and other liberal voices. Doing so would increase their ratings making them more competitive with Fux and CNN during more than just the Countdown hour.
