Don't be fooled by the GOP's "re-branding" stunt.
They know McCain is too closely associated with Bush and they know they're going to have to pretend the connection doesn't exist in order to win in November.

Just like everything the GOP does, this so-called "re-branding" will consist of a declaration of some kind of "reform", the illusion of contrition followed by business as usual.

At no time will the GOP give any details, nor will there be any "new" GOP. Just as the GOP's "Clean Skies Act" did not clean the skies, the "Clean Water Act" did not clean the water and "support the troops" resulted in "stop loss" and funds cut for the V.A., the GOP's new brand is a lie repeated to maintain a failed policy.

Gas prices won't go down with the oil companies changing their logos and the GOP won't become ethical or accountable with a different marketing strategy.

If they were serious about "a new brand" we'd see some accountability.

No more scare tactics, no more billion dollar contracts to loyal Republican party members. No more stalling and destroying evidence. No more hiding behind abuses of power. No more GOP running the government from party headquarters with impunity.

Substantial accountability will start with investigations into all their crimes including real testimony under oath starting with Rove; convictions for any and all wrong-doing and no excuses, commutations or pardons.

Checks and balances, justice and accountability is not the "brand" the GOP will be selling; it will be more of the same.

So, go ahead GOP strategists, give yourself a new name, change your logo, slap a "New and Improved" star on your lapel pins.

Lie all you want; we know your games all too well and we're not going to fall for your lies any longer.

2. They've already tried to redefine the word "liberal"...
...so I wouldn't put it past them to tattoo everyone and label us "wizards" (or "witches").

3. This kind of backward spin really only works . . .
When you can define the reality in which it's presented. The ability to define has slipped out of 'Lican fingers. Rebranding isn't going to work, because -- at least today -- the people are just too pissed off at the 'Licans to buy what they're saying. Come November, the trogs will sulk at home and the dems will come out in droves.

4. The re-branding isn't being done for thinking Americans...
...it's done for their frightened and confused obedient sheep, who need to know the reality they see with their own eyes is not the fault of the party they love so dearly.

14. True sheep have generally been a small contingent . . .
And their numbers shrink daily.

Regular 'Licans are that way because they know which side their personal bread is buttered on and they've trusted their leaders to continue giving them the larger slices of the loaf.

To do so requires competence, another 'Lican myth that's worn thin of late.

Troglodyte 'Licans are the ones I see being too pissed off with the current situation to show up at the polls in the numbers they have in the past. They're immune to reality anyway, but they're vulnerable to emotion.

8. They wont change what they stand for or anything
The GOP has mistreated, ignored, alienated and pissed off almost everyone. Gays, blacks, latinos, young, non-religious, fiscal conservatives, libertarians, progressives, independent women, etc. The only people left are the diehard loyalists, people who aren't paying attention and social conservatives.

Rather than changing their platform to stop being hostile towards all these groups, they'll just put more Alan Keyes in the spotlight. I remember seeing that one of the rebranding tactics is to get 'more blacks and latinos in the forefront' which is laughable. The base of the GOP consists of cultural and racial bigots. They aren't voting for a latino or black person for any meaningful position of power.

ie, there is no way that the republicans in the south or southwest would ever vote for a black or latino candidate. It is just window dressing to give the illusion of multiculturalism. Scratch the surface and the xenophobia of the GOP is still going to be there.

9. So very, very true.
Michael Steele is the GOP's "re-branded" Alan Keyes.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the GOP's "re-branded" Pete Wilson (another failed GOP CA governor)

And McCain is the GOP's "re-branded" Bush.

Failures one and all.

10. The Fact They Have To "Re-Brand" Says It All
It's a total failure of the brand...the dog food no one is buying. And how are they planning to "re-brand"? By replacing the dog food with dogshit and hoping no one tells the difference.

If you're a GOOPer with the worst political climate a party has ever faced going into an election, what would you do? You can't re-do the past 7 years. You can't replace all the criminals and losers who have destroyed your inept party. You go to the election with the party you have, not the one you wish for.

Their game right now is to stop the bleeding. They're only interested in keeping whatever is left of their party together and hope they don't get their asses kicked too badly in November. Don't consider it "re-branding" as much as a Clearance Sale...everything must go...down to the bare walls.

It's the marketing equivalent of speaking louder to a non-English speaker.

16. Aw but they'll still be our funny sex degenerates, won't they?
I'd sure hate for them to take that last bit of party shenanigans away from us. Also, isn't part of their re-branding taking all reference to "family values" out of their platform? Well at least candidates for the House decided to.
