Feud Fuels Bill O'Reilly's Blasts at GE

By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, May 19, 2008; Page A01

Bill O'Reilly, the Fox News star, is mounting an extraordinary televised assault on the chief executive of General Electric, calling him a "pinhead" and a "despicable human being" who bears responsibility for the deaths of American soldiers in Iraq.

On the surface, O'Reilly's charges revolve around GE's history of doing business with Iran. But the attacks grow out of an increasingly bitter feud between O'Reilly and the company's high-profile subsidiary, NBC, one that has triggered back-channel discussions involving News Corp. owner Rupert Murdoch, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes, NBC chief executive Jeff Zucker and General Electric's CEO, Jeffrey Immelt.

Ailes called Zucker on his cellphone last summer, clearly agitated over a slam against him by MSNBC host Keith Olbermann. According to sources familiar with the conversation, Ailes warned that if Olbermann didn't stop such attacks against Fox, he would unleash O'Reilly against NBC and would use the New York Post as well.

ANCHOR'S ADRIFT AGAIN
Page Six

May 19, 2008 -- IS Keith Olbermann, MSNBC's top-rated anchor, on the verge of yet another professional meltdown? His feuding with "Hardball" host Chris Matthews is nothing new. But now we're told notoriously odd Olbermann is lashing out at the rest of his network's talking heads. During West Virginia primary coverage the other night, Olbermann began pounding the table when lead White House reporter David Gregory didn't wrap his segment quickly enough to satisfy him. Olbermann recently encouraged management to oust the cable channel's lone conservative, Tucker Carlson, and it's also no secret among producers that Olbermann refuses to introduce Dan Abrams' show, which follows his own. Olbermann walked out of MSNBC years ago in a huff after also blowing up at ESPN, so TV insiders are curious if this recent behavior is a sign that history will repeat itself. MSNBC did not respond to our calls and e-mails seeking comment.

23. Guess you missed the night
Olbermann reported on Bill Clinton blaming the media for negative coverage. Olbermann said it was too bad Clinton used such a broad brush because many in the media supported her. As he said that he silently raised his hand.

9. "the cable channel's lone conservative...."
...Tucker Carlson?

This article obviously has no merit, since it's obviously written by someone who has never watched the network.

Even leaving out Morning Deadintern, there are plenty of conservatives on that channel. Hell, Pat Buchanan is a regular on the Race for the White House!

15. BRING 'EM ON!!!!!
IF Ailes and Orally can call Keith "NOTORIOUSLY ODD", then I think it would be fine for Keith to call them both "NOTORIOUSLY TREASONOUS"!

Here’s a GE Corporate response to my letter to them, as a result of a DU thread last week about Laura Ingraham ginning up some letter campaign against Keith to GE:

Thank you for expressing your views. We will pass these on to the appropriate
executives at GE, MSNBC and NBC Universal.

Thank you.
The GE Corporate Feedback Team

Comments:

Thank you very much for your Countdown with Keith Olbermann show on
MSNBC.

American mainstream media are merely stenographers for Republican propaganda.
Keith tells America what’s really going on.

If mainstream media had the backbone of Keith, George W. Bush would have been
Impeached back in 2003!

Yours truly,

Jim B*******

17. I'm sure KO doesn't need any extra ammo to fend off the Faux Network...

but here's a recent thread about one of Ailes' station managers: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3305137

Seems that this Faux station manager was literally caught in a circle jerk this weekend. :eyes:

I see something strangely metaphoric here. :eyes:

18. If true (IF), then WHY?
Why would KO refuse to do an intro to Dan's show? Why would he act like an ass to his bosses - i.e., corporate masters? They DO sign his paycheck, after all. I couldn't act like that at my job, and neither should he.

Sounds like a rerun of his other, prior flame-outs.

20. Ailes is doing this because BO can't/won't take on KO directly.
They can really dispute anything KO has said about BO, so they are escalating the fight to the top of the corporation. It will be interesting to see whether GE will support Keith or capitulate to the NewsCorp assault.

24. The NY Post is a pile shit republican lies & propaganda just as Fox is both owned by ultra wingnut
Edited on Mon May-19-08 03:38 PM by GreenTea
Rupert Murdoch, the same corporate neo-con who pays the republican shills & big mouth clowns, Roger Ailes, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, etc.

Whomever believes a word of what these Murdoch corporate fascist loving pigs say, deserve all the bullshit they are being fed by the same rich elitist fucks owned by Murdoch's "news" corporations.

If Limbaugh, Fox news or the NY Post says it, they accept it as the absolute truth. They'll always refuse to see the obvious conflict of interest of corporatism....instead they regurgitate, then spew out the hate & lies, word for word like good little simple-minded sheep and robots....NEVER mind checking the facts for themselves.....Listening & pointing the finger is much easier for them, to hate others who have a different point of view other than their narrow-minded views....their daily intake of hate & lies brought to them all nicely packaged in glossy, fast paced republican propaganda, disguised as unbiased news & opinions.

Pitiful as it is disgusting!
