I wonder what TSA would think of her? I guess it takes all kinds of people, to make the world be what it is. Huh.

http://www.thedayiwentmad.com/most-pierced-woman-in-the-world/

Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaine_Davidson
Elaine Davidson is the "Most Pierced Woman" according to the Guinness World Records.

When examined by a Guinness World Record official in May 2000, Davidson had 462 piercings, with 192 in her face alone. By August 2001 when she was re-examined she was found to have 720 piercings. Performing at the Edinburgh Festival in 2005, the Guardian reported that she now had 3,920 body piercings. She has more piercings in her genitalia than in any other part of the body - 500 in all, externally and internally. The total weight of her jewelry is estimated to be about 3 kilograms. As of May 2008, Davidson's piercings total 5,920.

35. I'm assuming she simply doesn't
Considering the crap I took at the airport this winter for wearing boots that have metal on them (not steeltoed; they were demanding I justify wearing boots with metal eyelets for laces), I'd be surprised if she was even allowed in an airport terminal. Which is ridiculous, IMO - I have a feeling I'm one of the only people in this thread who absolutely fails to have the least problem with this sort of thing, even though I have as many holes in my body as I was born with - but that's how it likely is these days.

I don't think I could stand by and let this happen.

They could call me "meddler Mother" but to me, this would comply with being a danger to oneself, although probably not to others. This is, unless they were driving by on a sunny day and caught a glimpse of either of these two women in a mirror or glowing on the side of the road...

Definitely a distraction.

I have several, large, tattoos. Colorful half-sleeves, and more.

Today was a warm & nice day in Portland, OR area. I went around in skimpy clothing walking my dog in an *upscale neighborhood, and everyone was really friendly to me. And I mean, everyone was nice! The senior citizen couples, the lady taking her trash curbside, even the cop who circled around my 1995 Ford pickup to decide whether I was parked legally. The cop smiled at me and was friendly, too.

* Lake Oswego, OR. I was visiting my sister this evening.

Edit to add: I have a feeling Obama has struck the chord of Oregonians, and people are excited about Obama for president. Maybe, just maybe.

As of this month, 5,920 piercings. That's really something psychiatric... but not sure what the cure would be.

there are folks who tattoo their bodies, she uses piercing

Not my cup of tea, but I am not going to recommend psychiatric care for this.... now if she was a danger to herself and others, a classic definition of a 51-50 that is another story. But she is not.

If she was my daughter, and was over 18, again, she is free and clear to do this as well

I also know that a person's mind can be so 'open' that their brains TOTALLY fall out.

This woman is clearly hurting herself (much like a 'cutter'). Someone needs to step in and help her.

M_Y_H

P.S.

What you said:
If she was my daughter, and was over 18, again, she is free and clear to do this as well

You wouldn't be a very good mom if you let your daughter torture herself this way.

My father gets all worked up about visible tattoos being "mutilation". It's all a matter of degree.

Personally, I don't find it attractive, but I don't automatically suspect mental problems. It's her way of expressing herself. I may not choose the same way, but I respect her right to do it and don't think any less of her.

I suspect you;d want all these people in the psych ward

As I said, it is NOT my cup of tea... neither are tattoos... but there is a limit on how much we can control folks

And what she is doing is extreme... but unless she gets an infection, she is not doing critical damage, except in a medical emergency

Or going through TSA

In fact, she is doing FAR LESS damage than a morbidly obese patient or a smoker

The morbidly obese should loose weight for their own sake, and smokers should not smoke... (and stay away from me with my asthma) but a smoker has a better chance of doing damage to me, than she ever will

THAT is the only thing that really changes people.

Our selfish society ...that CRYS OUT for love and understanding, yet doesn't GIVE any love and understanding in the FIRST PLACE.

I don't expect anyone like you, nadin, to understand that. You've worked so hard to put yourself in a 'first-place' position (as so many on DU have.....some are 'worthy/sincere....some are not) .....only to betray that trust/understanding.

92. That much metal would affect radio reception...
At $30 to $100 (depending on where you go and what you get) per piercing, you're looking at a sum of money that would get you a new house in Fayetteville.

I don't get into facial piercings, but this woman does and that's okay by me. But I looked at this picture and the FIRST thing that went through my mind was, "someone get this woman to a cosmetics counter!" Green shadow out to the bone? Not good.

89. You know what would happen with a tracheotomy on her, right?
The second she could breathe normally again, she'd put a piece of jewelry in the trach hole.

freaks.

OBVIOUSLY HURTING woman.

76. Maybe she did this to freak out people like you.
Maybe she's happy about how she is and doesn't care for your condescension. "OBVIOUSLY HURTING", project much? As far as your biblical quote, she did this to herself.

60. Are there a bunch of growths or something
all around the piercings, or are my eyes deceiving me? It looks like some kind of nastiness going on wherever her face is pierced.

I like piercings, and have jewelry in my nipples and in my junk, but at a certain point it's just gross-looking. And her teeth are in serious danger of heavy wear and accidental breakage from all the metal in her cheeks, lips, and tongue.

67. No different than people who get multiple plastic surgeries to improve themselves.
Generally that kind of thing can be traced to a psychological problem. Usually a deep dissatisfaction with their own body and a compulsive desire to improve themselves. Some express it through whole body tatoos, some through piercings, and some through successive plastic surgeries. They're all different social and cultural reactions to the same psychological problems.

I'm NOT saying that everyone who gets any of these has issues. I had six piercings at one time, though all have been removed now, and I have some small tatoos. Both were for social reasons, and weren't done to "improve myself" so much as to "look cool" to my friends when I was younger.

Could you imagine lying in a hospital bed and having HER walk in with a needle. "Trust me dear, this won't hurt a BIT!"

72. Damn what a mess.
I'm not all that open-minded about tats and piercings. I think they're pretty ugly, but especially so when taken to excess.

It looks like she is covered in boils from some disease. And the green eye makeup and red rouge does NOT work with her complexion.

She makes these two look attractive by comparison.

I'll never understand the need among some people to mutilate the perfectly good body they were born with.

It's their prerogative to do so, but I'll never understand it.

77. I think it's kind of cool but
looks like she has an irritation from the jewelery, and I don't envy the pain she must have from infected piercings or when she has a cold or when it IS cold etc etc etc...

I have a few eyebrow piercings, but, while tempted, I won't get any others because it's just not practical... plus, my parents spent a small fortune to straighten my teeth when I was a teenager and would hate to see any get chipped from a temporary body modification. (by temporary, I mean like 10 years or so, I figure, unlike this woman, I'll take mine out at some point)

Freedom of expression...hers and mine, but I tend to think there's more going on than expressing her "artistic" side. :(

79. She has more piercings in her genitalia than in any other part of the body - 500 in all, externally
...and internally.

Internally? What the fucking fuck?

Razor wire around her cervix?

83. Drunken piercing kid was really grossing out my friend's wife at a bar one night.
Figured that all the hardware would impress her away from her husband, I suppose. My friend said "Kid, if you think that shit hurt going in, wait till you feel it coming out."

And that was that.

I wonder if she has plastic jewelry so she can be screened? I wonder how long it takes for her to properly clean all of her piercings and jewelry?
