Explosion at downtown San Diego hotel. 13 hurt, 2 critically. |
|
No cause as of yet. The hotel is under construction and the explosion may have come from a "control room". A news person has already mentioned 9/11. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20080519-1556-bn19blast.html

3. In fairness, didn't they just have a courthouse pipe bombing? |
|
I know it's not a thing like 9-11 -- just asking.

5. Not control room, mechanical room. |

Usually means where the boilers and heaters are. It could have been a ruptured boiler, or a gas leak.
Most people don't understand the kind of damage an industrial boiler for commercial water heating can do. They've been known to level buildings on rare occasion.

8. I saw damage from one years ago. |
|
I was working for my uncle in a small industrial park that backed up to a large industrial tomato canning operation, and one of their big boilers exploded one day. The force of the blast flexed our building enough to crack the stucco on the sides. Some of the other places in the park lost windows facing the plant.
The steel frame building that had housed the boiler was completely gone, with pieces spread out over several hundred feet. They were REALLY, REALLY lucky though...it blew during a lunch break so nobody was in the boiler building (though they later figured out that if someone HAD been in the building, they probably could have stopped the thing from blowing in the first place). There were a few minor injuries from flying debris, but nothing serious.

9. As a medic I saw these babies go, as in the effects |
|
and I also saw small gas tanks, like those used for grills go off
When you see firefighters drop hoses and run... that is your cue.
Funny I still remember a reporter not listening... long story... but we ended leaking the story to their main competitor...
There are games played that are just FUN. But of most folks realized the depth of the games, they might actually get a clue of how the message is controlled

6. From the story: a boiler may have exploded |
|
"One worker said a boiler in the hotel exploded, a claim that could not be immediately verified."
In case anyone's wondering why commercial boiler operators have to be licensed...
