Do TSA, "anti-illegal-immigration" roadblocks, in-your-face-cops, |

the "war on drugs," and PATRIOT Act incursions into basic constitutional liberties constitute a "kindler-gentler" form of martial law? Is the US already a police state of sorts?

2. Of sorts? No question, but it is worse than a police state. |
|
It's a national security state which means that the powers are not content with just ignoring the Constitution and the rights of citizens; they feel perfectly comfortable invading, occupying and destroying other countries all in the name of security.
Unfortunately there are many--quite a few right here on DU--who have no problem with for example, the friendly fascism of a roadblock because if it gets one drunk driver off the road...
As long as it is couched in the mantra of "keeping us safe" even progressives will let it creep in.

Of course, until there are actually tanks and APCs parked no the streets, many will argue against this, but it is what it is.
