I donated by purchasing a tote bag from Cafe Press, but my star hasn't shown up yet (I'm assuming because it's a holiday and everyone is out).

But, I would like to participate.

I have started several threads whenever there is an earthquake and am working on formatting them such that the links and all info will be available in the thread instead of linking to something else.

Also, I am wiki literate if that is needed at any point.

9. We had hurricane warnings for Hurricane Rita coming inland as a hurricane
400 miles North on the Texas/Oklahoma border. We ended up getting some pretty heavy squalls.

ROE2 and ROE3 (ROE stands for 'RunningOnEmpty'). Those are my main peak oil lists chalk full of good info. All kinds of people from all over the world on those 2 lists.

32. I support the formation of this group.....
I think it would be very helpful in light of the beginning of hurricane season, in addition to the eratic weather all around the country. Plus some members here rely on DU for information as they do not get out due to physical/economic reasons.

Thank you for suggesting this group. It's a great idea!

33. I'd join that forum!
Last year for Christmas, I made emergency bags for all my family members. My MIL said it was nicest present she had ever received. In 2005, my Mom who lives on the east coast of FL., had to evacuate for hurricanes three times in one summer. That's really hard on older people.

35. I think it might be helpful to indicate that
this is not a forum for the paranoid survivalists, but simply people who value the idea of learning techniques for doing things "from scratch" - which is what emergency preparedness is all about.

I think this is a great idea, but would like to avoid making it a refuge from those who are, shall we say, less grounded.

got a new roof and garage door, along with six windows because we "self boarded" and broke a few window seals but the insurance adjuster said he was replacing them because we "tried" to save the house. Lucky us....great adjuster.

52. Sustainable Living and/or Emergency Preparedness?
Edited on Mon May-26-08 01:32 PM by Dover
Very torn about this. I'm pro green and sustainable living, but am not a 'survivalist' prone to act from fear. That is not the source of my motivation. So I'll wait to see how this potential new DU Group is defined more before I'm 'in'. Having been through the Y2K debacle, I'm wary.

I see some overlap, but don't think sustainable living (a complete change in our relationship with the earth and lifestyle) has much to do with emergency situations which are temporary survival efforts.

In my county, I've gone through the CERT training (Certified Emergency Response Training)and I have enough emergency supplies to feed 2 families for 2 months - or mine for 4 months(along with water). But I'd love to be part of a forum where we could discuss things and give info for others searching for it.
