Oh yes, remembering the greatness of Ronnie Reagan
My cousin sent me this the other day. My response wasn't very nice, but, you know, he should know better than to instigate me in the first place. :)

:puke:

Remember this guy?

Didn't realize just how much he's missed, until I read and remembered some of the stuff he said... and stood for .

'Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose.'- Ronald Reagan

'The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' - Ronald Reagan

'The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.' - Ronald Reagan

'Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong.'
- Ronald Reagan

'I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.' - Ronald Reagan

'The taxpayer: That's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination.'
- Ronald Reagan

'Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.'
- Ronald Reagan

'The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program.' - Ronald Reagan

'It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.' - Ronald Reagan

'Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.' - Ronald Reagan

'Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed, there are many rewards; if you disgrace yourself, you can always write a book.' - Ronald Reagan

'No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is as formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.'- Ronald Reagan

'If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.'
- Ronald Reagan

1. How 'bout this one: "I don't recall"
Your cousin remembers that one, right? When he was being questioned whether or not he knew of high treason committed by Ollie North? Lotsa laffs!

3. what's weird is
my whole family is staunchly Democratic. So I think he's a Dem, but sometimes anybody will pass on things that are like this. He once passed on an anti-Hillary thing.

My sister and I were just railing about the lasting effects of Ronnie on the working class this afternoon, funny you should mention that.

Hey, wanna see some anti-Hillary Dems? Wander on over to GDP!

4. Ah yes, leadership by cliche.

Saint Ronnie was just a soundbite aphorist, a snakeoil huckster who thought he was Will Rogers. What his worshipers don't realize is that, just because something is short and pithy, doesn't mean it isn't bullshit. Ronnie was the Alpha Bullshitter of all time.

6. yes, like denigrating government at all costs
Oh, haha, government sucks, that's so cute. Meanwhile we get Katrina and things like that because Republicans think that government shouldn't be taken seriously so they used it as a playground for their cronies.

11. If government sucks so bad then why are all these
repukes, Reagan included, so anxious to be a part of it? Could it have something to do with a fat paycheck? a fat pension? excellent health care? lots of power and influence?

Nothing worse than a hypocrite railing against the government while benefitting generously from it.

I wish there was a way these anti-government bullshitters and their supporters could be forced to live without government for a month. That would shut them up in a hurry.

7. "If you could add up all the power of prayer in this room, what would its megatonnage be?"
slobbering human rectum, hobnobbing with Óscar Romero's assassins, killing 100,000, and again turning the White House into a nest of thieves and murderers. It's happened again--but without any actual opposition. Where are you, Tip O'Neill?

15. I think he was talking about WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam
Although knowing him, he could have been confusing the latter two with the Spanish-American War and the Revolution
